Here’s the basic info, I am 33, 6’00", male, and in January I tipped the scales at 247lbs. Unacceptable.
Through lifestyle changes and physical activity, I currently weigh in at 216lbs. But here’s the thing, looking at my body, my man boobs look bigger! They appear pointier and more pronounced. WTF.
My current exercise program is very yoga centric (4x a week) and involves some cardio and some strength training (2x a week between the both, maybe). I am looking for suggestions to flatten my chest area.
I realize my body may just be at that “in between haircut” awkward phase, but your suggestions, opinions, and experiences are appreciated.
Generally, the last place on your body you put on fat is the last place you’ll lose it. If you have most of the fat in your chest that you did before you lost weight, they only appear larger compared to the rest of you that is smaller. Keep losing fat and see if they go away. If it doesn’t and it turns out to be gynecomastia, you’re going to need medical intervention.
They could look pointier because they’re deflating, too. Or (I have no idea if this is anatomically possible) if you imagine boob-shaped objects stretched over a large area of fat, if the fat area shrank, that could lead the boobs to become less flat and wide and thus pointier and “taller” (more pronounced), if that makes sense.
So - is it possible that a reduction in weight around your abdomen is making the moobs look bigger, even though they’re the same size? Have a look, if this seems to be the case I would just stay the course with your exercise and weight loss.
You may also want to look at your diet - depending on what you’re eating if your insulin levels are out of wack it can contribute to pseudogynecomastia. Improving your diet could help reduce things.
However, did you have this before you got heavy? If not it seems it may be related to weight more than anything else.
My diet is pretty healthy now. I did have some breast fat before, but it seems like the ratios would stay the same as I shrink. I guess it mostly took me by suprise. My hope is that my fat cells are shrinking proportionately and that I am in an awkward phase. I do store my weight in my chest, belly so it’s not all that crazy. Maybe I can just buy some undershirts to smooth things out in the transition!
Do tons of puchups and turn your moobs into pecs. It won’t make them any smaller but they will be less noticable if you have large and defined pecs behind them.
There’s always breast reduction surgery (I’m not kidding, lots of plastic surgery places do men’s boobs). Or laser liposuction might be less scarring and invasive. I understand the laser shrinks some of the leftover skin too (however, IANADoctor).
Roddy
Agreed on the chest exercises. Gaining muscle means that the fat you carry (and extra skin) looks better. I’m a chick, and doing resistance training even made my boobs migrate up a little bit.
If you really have gynecomastia often times doing chest exercises will just make it look worse. The chest is relatively easy to build. So it just enhances them, I’ve seen this.
I would keep the weight light and do more reps. You also should use free weights in this case. But PLEASE if you do use them, get some help on how to properly use them. I’ve seen too many chipped teeth and broken toes from them.
Free weighs will allow you to lift at various angles and do twists while you lift.
If you’re concerned see a doctor, if you try to lift and it seems to make it worse, the only real solution is gonna be either lose all your weight so you’re rail thin or some surgery.
Keep going, man, and that fat will disappear too. And, as mentioned, start working out and a pec-shaped chest will begin to replace a man-boob-shaped chest. Start working out. You’ll love what it does to your body.
What are you eating? If you’re trying to get from here to there, I recommend a whole foods high-fat, low-carb diet with adequate protein, along with the exercise you’re already doing. Strips the fat right off and builds muscle.
Persistent fat deposits in the breasts for men can be a hormonal issue which this type of diet is also good for. It made my boobs bigger, but that’s was the desired effect since I’m a woman.
