Yay for new title!
And yay for getting on the scales this morning and seeing 113.0kg! Weighed in at 113.7kg on Sunday so that’s a good loss so far. I’ve been eating a bit more and that seems to be having the desired effect (go figure).

Thanks for changing it! Here’s the chocolate I’m not eating anymore.
Thank you thank you EC!
And I bring up my question again, this time in digest format: I’ve begun to see all manner of numbers for ‘how many calories you should ingest in a day’. I know that I’m quite below what the Mayo Clinic website suggests, and I’m wondering if that’s actually going to -hurt- my loss chances, although that seems counter-intuitive.
Starvation mode is a myth.
Now, you don’t want to eat so few calories that you are experiencing extreme hunger and therefore risking a binge or something, but if what you have been doing works for you, then keep doing it.
I should add: it is true that your body needs fewer calories when you weigh less, so that should also go into your calculations.
Here’s another good explanation.
You know, ArrMatey!, if you’re not losing then what will a week of 2500 calories hurt? I would totally do it if it were me. If you start going UP after 3 days, then stop. That’s not your answer.
My progress is ok…I had 3 days “off plan” for my birthday and it went pretty well. I ate only super delicious stuff. I gained 3 lbs but I knew that’d happen so I’m not worried.
I am a little bit bummed because my stomach (GERD and gastroparesis) felt really good on those days I was eating carbs, even though I was eating more grease and spice (pepperoni) than usual. I suspect I have a much easier time digesting carbs. So my stomach does well with carbs and my liver does poorly with them. My body is at odds with itself.
I also think I have some sort of egg allergy, or rather eggs by themselves (not cooked in to other foods) make my stomach hurt pretty bad. I’ve felt sick the past 3 days and I’ve been eating deviled eggs. This whole stomach thing started when I was eating eggs every day. I’m still sick for real, regardless of eggs, but they just…hurt.
So to recap: simple carbs make me fat, I don’t like most meats, eggs make my stomach hurt a lot.
Ain’t life grand?
Oh well. I hope to come out at the end of this week 1 lb less than last Thursday. Let’s do it!
I have similar stomach issues, as well as similar reaction to carbs. Part of why my weight goes up and down those last 10 or so pounds is that I go through periods of having really awful stomach problems, and what helps is simple cards—saltines, plain things, etc. But then I get…puffy.
Also, I should have mentioned when I posted before that I lurk on this thread a lot as I am constantly in a battle with the last 10 pounds—it’s not like I just barged in and gave advice, although that’s likely what it looked like. Sorry!
Hehe it’s ok. I figure since there is a complete lack of fatty bashing in these threads that no one clicks on them who isn’t interested in weight loss. So anyone who’s reading “gets it”!
Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one who has a carb conundrum!
Monday! I’m proud to report that even though I gained 3 lbs last weekend for my birthday (oh so much pizza and cake…) I kicked it in to high gear during the week and lost the 3 lbs plus 2 more. Now I’m down 40 total!
Hope this week is as good but I don’t have as much time for exercise. Last week I was able to do my full routines plus move boxes up and down stairs every day. This week my routines will be cut short and I think we’re done with the boxes.
ArrMatey, how’s the plateau? Did you tweak anything?
Grr… I gained 0.8 lbs back this week. Of course my scumbag body had to wait until after weigh-in to have to go the bathroom.
However… I think I’ve actually bottomed out. I don’t think I can lose much more just with diet and exercise alone. As I reminded myself this morning, I’ve lost more than my Weight Watchers record says. So I requested my medical records from when I was at my fattest and made a doctor’s appointment to see what she thinks. I may be looking at maintenance sooner rather than later.
Weighed in at 112.5kg this morning, 16.8g (37 pounds) lost since September.
I must admit I haven’t been religiously tracking my WW points, I seem to have a pretty good sense of what is a day’s worth of food these days. I will start tracking again this morning, though. I’ve lost a WW point so I need to make sure I take that into account.
It’s starting to look like my goal to be at 110kg for July is possible, yay!
Weighed in today, and I’m down 3.5 since last week. That’s my best 1 week loss since starting, and my lowest point so far.
The bad news is the chaotic up and down I’m dealing with, and the overall slow rate of loss. At this rate, I’ll finally lose my desired 65 lbs. somewhere around Christmas 2037.
Great result this week! And better to be 65 lbs down than 65 lb up in 2037!
Hit my lowest weight so far on my diet. I was happy as I had eaten a fair bit over the weekend, and was expecting some weight gain just from the extra food still in my system. I continue to track my weight each day on The Hacker’s Diet Online. I really like how it smooths out your average weight. If you happen to be up a couple pounds one day, it is likely just a function as how much food and liquid your body is retaining, as you are not likely to really gain a couple pounds in a few days unless you are marathon eating. However it shows you within a couple days if you weight is starting to trend up.
Hit 210 yesterday, and I’m comfortably in 14s. Which is funny, 'cause I was about 195 in high school, and I was in 16s/18s then. Odd what 11 years’ll do to clothing sizes, huh?
So that’s a hundred and fifty gone. Thirty more, and I’ll have lost half my starting weight. Christ.
I’m not loving my loose skin. It seems to be tightening up some, but, man, my arms are really awful. I feel like I could glide on them or something.
Lately, my body’s been bothering me. It feels completely different, and there are parts that are bony that weren’t before. I used to be able to cross my legs at the ankles and rest them on my computer tower at work, but 16 pounds after starting here, I find that the point of the ankle isn’t really comfy doing that anymore.
Angel, I know what you mean. I have to bunch the quilt up between my knees so there’s padding; otherwise, I have to contort myself so they don’t hit together. And my ass has no padding, either.
I’m officially off the plateau! I started more and more intense exercise, and it made a HUGE difference. I lost 3.2 lbs. for a total of almost 88 lbs. The increase in exercise has had a rather good effect on my disposition, as well.
Great result, MsRobyn!
I have finally had someone at work mention my weight loss. I know people worry about whether it’s the right or wrong thing to say to someone, so I’m so grateful for this person actually saying something! We got into the lift together and she said, ‘You’ve lost a lot of weight, haven’t you? I noticed it a while ago but wasn’t sure whether to say anything.’
So today I am one motivated bunny!
just 1/2 a pound on weigh in yesterday, but it’s been a week of family gatherings etc so eating has been bad.
I’ve been a bit low (moodwise), so fell into the over-eating and drinking trap - I won’t be weighing myself until I think I’ve undone some of the damage!
On the plus side, I’ve got out and starting training for the 5K, and am really enjoying jogging again. I’m having to resist from going out every night and over-training though
It’s always nice to get compliments. It is a good motivator because, let’s be honest, we’re not just doing this for us, we’re doing it for other people and it’s great when our efforts are acknowledged. In fact, I got a good one a few weeks ago when Airman gave my jeans to the sprog because he had no idea that my clothes are now that small. (And those jeans are loose!)
One thing I found out is that I still have to stay within my daily allowance and use my activity points for one special thing, as opposed to using the activity points to go over one or two points or more each day. Advance planning is also important to help me stay within my allowance. I planned my breakfast and dinner last night, so I know how many I have for lunch. It just makes things a lot easier and more flexible, actually, than just winging it and hoping that I stay inside my allowance.
