Weight Loss Support Thread [edited title]

Great weigh in

3.1 pounds down for the week, 18.5 is the running total. Also neck down 0.5 inch(1 in total), waist down a full inch(3.5 in total) & hips down 0.5 of an inch (2 in total)

motivation levels returning…

My weigh-in yesterday was not good. I had cake two days in a row, frozen yogurt (sugar- and fat-free, but still) on Sunday, and very little exercise. I gained 1.6 lbs. Of course, I stepped on the scale this morning and my weight was where it should be. Damn scumbag body!

HEY GUYS!

I had an awesome week. My food diary looks good, I did my full workout schedule (elliptical, elliptical/weights, elliptical, elliptical/weights, swim) plus on Saturday and Sunday (and Thursday) I moved boxes up and down stairs for 30 mins a day.

I didn’t lose this week, though, which is a bummer. Because next Saturday is my birthday and I’m going “off” and I hoped to hit 40 lbs gone by then. Not sure if it’s going to happen though.

I have some theories on lack of weight loss this week:

  1. I’m not used to stairs at all, and my thighs are humongously huge muscles. They were awakened by the stair work and are retaining fluid for the moment. (science)
  2. I still have my period every day (gonna call the doc next week, switch my BCP) and it seems extra heavy right now so maybe retaining water from that.
  3. I didn’t drink enough water this week. Way too little.

Oh I also got lab work results. My cholesterol didn’t go down and my good cholesterol didn’t go up. My blood pressure is still slightly high (like 140/90). So fucking pissed. I lost 35 lbs, take a statin, take fish oil, eat flax meal, quit smoking a year ago, exercising daily. FUCK THAT NOISE. The doctor is not worried (the numbers aren’t too super high) but she is a bit flummoxed. Hrumph.

Also got an official diagnosis on my tummy. GERD and gastroparesis. My stomach doesn’t digest as fast as it should. Turns out that’s painful. No real cure for it. It could be much worse. Treatment would be worse too. So take $190/mo Nexium and hope you grow out of it.

Ok rambling over. How is everyone else?

Talk about bad timing. I went to my weekly Fat Club weigh in, and I was up a half pound for the week.

About a half hour after the meeting was over, I felt a rumbling in the works, and made a dash to the men’s room. I don’t want to be too graphic, but I swear when I was done, I would have been down a half pound at weigh in.

Yeah, that happened to me last week. I usually allow myself a piece of cake when my book club goes for dessert after the formal meeting on Friday, and I’m pretty good about avoiding most processed sugar the rest of the week. But between my usual piece of cake and more dessert on Saturday night’s potluck, my system was confused. After I had breakfast Tuesday morning (AFTER weigh-in, naturally), that was it. When I stepped on the scale Wednesday morning, it was right where it was supposed to be. I haz a

Last week’s weather was gorgeous and perfect for a nice, long bike ride. And I do mean “long”. Then we had that stupid nor’easter blow through. I haz another

I’ll let you know how I do tomorrow.

Back on the damn plateau. My total rose to 59 pounds lost, and I got all excited… Then back to 57. And staying there. For days.
So, today I took a lot of the pent up energy I’ve been having and walked. 12.5 minutes. Yeah, I know it’s not a lot, but my usual amount is zero minutes, so I think this is a step (ha!) in the right direction.
I also added more weight to the free weights I’ve been using. No idea if that actually helps, but it made me feel like I was progressing in some nebulous way. Also went 200 calories shy of my normal budget today.
I gotta break through this plateau. It’s driving me nuts.

I gained again last week. I went back and figured out that I was snacking on fruit too much. Fruit has zero points, but it still has calories and sugar – enough to make me gain weight.

So this week, I’m doing a lot of heavy planning. I’ve got most of my food for today, tomorrow, and Friday already worked out. (Breakfasts and dinners are planned, but lunch isn’t. I have to work that out.) If it’s not planned for, it doesn’t get eaten. Period. So far today, I’ve had 1/2 cup of Egg Beaters with onion, broccoli, and fat-free cheese with a slice of toast and a banana for breakfast, and leftover shrimp fried rice (homemade, not take-out) and carrots for lunch. Dinner will be six ounces of steak (again, cooked at home, not at a restaurant), a grilled Vidalia onion (cooked on the grill, not in butter), some grilled beets, and a small (150-gram) baked potato. I do have some room for a snack if I want one, but I’m on the fence. I’ll see how I feel in an hour or so. The point is that I need to exercise some discipline about what I eat and not go crazy just because something’s “free”.

I am losing very slowly (about half a pound a week) which is exactly what I was going for. Even with my PMS cravings I am still down that half pound.

The cottage cheese (seriously, the best protein food I can find) doesn’t taste good yet but it is above tolerable (with lots of black pepper mixed in). It seems to really be helping me not to be starving by lunch and is making my morning tummy problems less problematic. I am treating it like medicine. I am eating it because it is good for me, dammit!

I am keeping it to small changes. I have eliminated second supper and replaced it with a small bedtime snack. I am keeping my goals small.

I want to lost about 10 pounds by November. Slow and steady is the order of the day.

Slow and steady is a good approach!

I started in September 2011 at 129.4kg and weighed in at 113.7kg this morning. I expected to be heavier thanks to a celebratory steak dinner on Tuesday night, but I balanced it with a light fish dinner last night, and I do think the occassional splurge helps keep the metabolism chugging along.

Whew! I think I’m losing about just over 1lb a month, so it’s definitely slow in my case

After a bit of yo-yoing, my weight has settled down again and I’m down another pound overall - so for those who have lost track (i.e. future me) that’s 6lbs gone since I joined the January thread, with another 22lbs ideally to go.

To be honest, as soon as I’ve passed the halfway mark, I’ll be a happy girl, anything beyond 14lbs lost overall is a bonus

Okay, problem / question.
For the past few weeks, I’ve really been struggling to get over a plateau. It seems like no matter how carefully I watch it, I’m just not losing anything. I’ve even significantly ramped up my exercise.
Now, when I started all this, I chose an arbitrary calorie number for my daily intake, and slowly worked down to that level, where I’ve been for a while. Realizing that I just sort-of chose a number out of the blue (1800), I did some research tonight and found that it’s far below what the mayo clinic (via their website) says I should be having (around 2500).
I’d read elseweb that dropping one’s calories too low can make the metabolism go all screwy, and prevent weight loss. That seems… Counter-intuitive to me. I also don’t want to -add- more calories if I don’t need to, as this, too, seems counter-intuitive.
So, anyone have any non-anecdotal evidence to help me out? Should I be raising my caloric intake?

I’d been plateauing for a while, went out for a steak dinner and had dropped 300g two days later. My biggest losses always seem to come when I eat my weekly points as well as my dailies. I do think there’s something about ‘stoking the engine’!

Well, I’m actually looking forward to weighing in this morning. I was very careful this week to track everything in advance. This really seemed to help keep me on track, as opposed to “Meh, I’ll figure it out later.” I also think that some exercise on a daily basis, as opposed to less, but more intense, exercise, helped.

I stepped on the scale this morning in heavy sweatpants and a T-shirt and I was not displeased with the number. It’s not as low as I would have liked, but it’s down by a good bit from last week, and since I don’t weigh in heavy sweatpants and a T-shirt (I’m in a modest sports bra and shorts), I feel pretty good.

And all this stuff worked! I was down 2.4 this morning, for a total of 85.4! I’ve already got my week mostly planned out, including a trip to the drive-in this weekend. So I’m in pretty good shape.

Yaknow, this is the February/March weight loss thread. My watch, cell phone, and PC all say today is 1 May. Maybe we should move on, or ask for a rename to the ongoing weight loss thread…

I think we all agreed to just keep using the same thread. Having different threads causes confusion and some keep posting in the old thread whilst others post in the new.

Maybe, if we ask nicely enough, a friendly, neighborhood mod will change the title to something like “Weight Loss Support Thread”?

up 1.5 pounds, but measurements not changed so not too fussed. Onwards!

I have a regular MD appointment today so I will be interested in what they say I’ve lost, even though I can still count all the pounds on my fingers without resorting to binary. A 3 month wiegh span will filter out the weekly Fat Club yo-yo effect.

Maybe you could beg? Also, I accept bribes.
