In this thread it was decided that maybe its time to start another Weight Watchers Support Thread.
Now, I’ve just recently joined a WW at Work program. tramp just signed up with the online program. I know there are others out there that are current members, past members, or those thinking of joining. I also know that I have the will power of a flea! I could use a group of friends to help me through this difficult time. Its a long haul and encouragement can do wonders!
This could be a place where we can all check in. List our “downs” as well as our “ups” and give each other points that are helping us.
Yup, I just joined WW online today. I really don’t have time for the meetings so I thought the online route was best for me. I work full time and go to law school part time so when I say I don’t have any time, I REALLY don’t have any time.
It may not seem like the best idea to start WW before a holiday weekend but it actually works out quite well for me. I am going to my boyfriend’s grandmother’s house this weekend and I hate her Easter ham so now I have an excuse not to eat that crap. It is sooooooooooooooo nasty.
I have a goal in my head of getting my boobs down to just a plain ole D rather than the DD I’m wearing now. My boyfriend thinks I am insane but I’d like him to try carrying around these boulders for a few days. I’d also like to lose the 20 freaking pounds I’ve put on since law school began.
So we’ll see how this goes… hopefully, I can post pics of me in a bikini if all goes according to the points plan…
I’m thinking of joining online. I read the other thread and checked out their site. I like that you can do a higher protein version because when I eat that way I usually feel better and have less blood sugar fluctuation. For some reason I thought WW was all high carbs.
I don’t want to do the in-person meetings, mostly because of the weigh in. I was anorexic in high school – very concerned with the number on the scale to the detriment of the rest of my life, pretty much. I’m 5’3", and weighed 115 at my lowest. Sounds decent, but considering I’m supposed to be built like a German barmaid, that was frighteningly skinny and it is absolutely imperative I don’t get back into that mind-set. For me, weighing in maybe once every other month or three months is going to be the max. I want to feel better, but I want to stay sane while getting there. Mostly I want to make the focus on changing my life & haits for the better.
I noticed the online membership has a weight-tracker thing. Do you HAVE to use that? Or can you skip it?
Is it a good way just to get started? And will it help you keep going? I now weigh (oh, gawd!) around 305. I would like to get down to about 150 or so eventually, because at that weight I feel energetic, still have curves but also can have the amount of muscle I need for my body type. But holy crud, that’s a lot of weight to loose!
I’m trying to get my ducks more or less in some sort of a row so I can start on this and have the best chance of being successful. I have a therapist & a nutritionist lined up and my doctor is really good about working with me. I feel like I’m in a good place to start getting a handle on my out-of-control eating, and I’m just wondering if WW could help.
I don’t think you have to use the weight tracker thing. I mean you could just put a bogus number in I guess. But, what do I know, this is only my first day!
I’ve always been overweight, but during my pregnancy I gained… well, shall we say way more than recomended. My son is now almost 16 months old and I still haven’t dropped it all.
Weight Watchers is out, as it costs money, but I am trying to watch what I eat (I’m a big junk food junkie, plus I’ve always hated vegetables with a passion) and exercise (mostly with aerobic videos).
Support is definitely key in the battle to get more fit!
Mariachi Kitty if you use the online program and don’t weigh in everything still works and is accessible but your start-up screen will say Hay, you haven’t weighed in for a while. Don’t forget to weigh in!!!. As long as you can stand that the “online tools” could serve you well. I found the site and the points program helpful. I only cancelled my membership because of some “financial reverses”
I’d be happy to be part of a support thread if Weight Watchers membership is not a requirement. I have about 68 more pounds to lose.
Joined last Tuesday and am already finding it a tad difficult… Not that I can’t eat less than my points, but that it’s very difficult to eat all the points. It feels wrong to be eating all this food. Tonight I’m 5.5 points short of target but can not fit another thing in my tummy.
Gonna have to ask about this at the next meeting.
Here is a nifty site that has quite a lot of useful information. The dining out guide is most useful to those in the US, however.
Even if you connot afford to join meetings or the online version of WW, it would still be useful to register with the site and use the information there.
Don’t worry Mariachi Kitty. Every little step helps. I want to lose about 5 stone (70 pounds). This won’t take me down to the recommended weight for my height, it would be a weight at which I’d feel comfortable.
No problem, gwendee. Glad to have you here. The more the merrier
Any tips on making hunger go away? I’m hungry all the time. Every minute of the day. I do slightly better on a higher protein diet, but still with the gnawing hunger. Carbs really set me off, once I start I can’t stop. Please help!
LunaSea do you like to eat carrots and other veggies? There are a lot of foods that have zero point values. You can just keep a bag of carrots with you and when you have the hunger attack, snack on them! Also, I find that if I really push my water consumption it is harder to be hungry. That is just my $0.02.
Have you tried the soups LunaSea? The no points soup looks nice. I made the lentil soup yesterday - added carrots and courgette (zucchini). It was quite filling.
As skittles mentioned, all veggies are free so just keep nibbling. Also, perhaps eating high fiber grub is an option to keep you feeling full longer.
Carbs are a trigger for many people. My hubby can eat an entire loaf of bread at one sitting. For me it’s pasta or rice. I love both of them and really have to keep tabs on them.
I started doing the Points system on February 25th. I’ve lost (as of last weigh in on Thursday) 18 lbs. I’m also doing Curves for Women at the gym 4-5 times per week. In the month that I’ve been doing that, I’m down 8.5 inches and 10 lbs, 8.08 of which is body fat. Rah!
i’ve been doing weight watchers for about a month, and have lost about 7 lbs. so far. love it. it’s so non-restricting, since you can eat whatever you choose, you just need to watch your portions. it teaches you healthy eating habits, not just “quick fix” techniques. and i really enjoy the group aspect of it–hearing other people’s ideas, having the accountability, feeling the little bit of competitive spirit i have inside me itching to get out! overall, it’s been a very positive experience for me.
i don’t know how the online program compares to the real-live program, but in the real live program, you have to weigh in at least once a month, but you can skip the other three weigh ins if you so choose. i like the weigh ins–it’s one concrete way to keep track of my progress (along with almost all my clothes getting a bit baggier!!).
i also had the problem of sometimes not getting up to my minimun amount of points, which you need to do in order for your body to drop weight (any less than your minimum, and your body will go into “starvation mode,” and hang onto all it’s fat in fear of not getting fed again). i asked about it at one of my meetings, and someone suggested milk, which i thought was brilliant–2 points for 1 cup! also, try to eat your points during the beginning/middle of your day, and then if you are still hungry, fill up on the zero points things.
btw, carrots are NOT zero points, they do count as a point per cup, but, like they say at ww, no one is here because they ate too many carrots! the skinny cow are like a godsend, only two points for a little slice of heaven! the choclolate peanut butter and the mint flavors are deeeeeelicious!
i would so love to be a part of a support group here! like skittles said the more the merrier!
OK - today is my weigh in day. I have my WW at Work meeting at noon! Wish me luck! I think I did OK for the majority of the week - yesterday, well…lets hope I didn’t do too bad.
As for being hungry, it takes time for your body to realize you are not going to feed it like you used to. Also - take the time to think - am I really hungry, or am I bored/tired/angry/stressed? For when you truly are hungry, zero point veggies are a lifesend. Also - get protein & fiber in your foods - they are good at filling you up and having lasting power. And don’t neglect your fat intake - you need it for your body to be healthy! Good fats - nuts, salmon, natural peanut butter.
Well, just got back from the meeting…8 pounds down!!! I’m so excited! That just proves how poorly my food choices were! I’m so excited and it has really given me incentive to keep sticking to it. The hard work does get paid off!!!
