Weird Al in Pompano Beach, FL. Nicest audience ever

I went to see Weird Al last night in Pompano Beach for the White and Nerdy tour (it turned out to be rather wet and nerdy, but that’s another story).

Anyway, I’ll say this for the show: I’ve seen The Eagles. The Rolling Stones. Rush. Billy Joel. Weird Al? BEST CONCERT EVER. Bar none.

My point is that I’ve never seen such a polite, nice audience for any concert. Al came out, everyone stood up and cheered for about a minute, then bang- right back in their seats where they listened to the show, laughed, applauded, occasionally waved cell phones, and had a great time. No asshole smoking cigarettes or joints, no beer spilled on me, no one vomiting in the aisle, no jerkhole standing up through the whole show blocking the view. I have never, ever seen such a nice audience ever or had a more enjoyable concert experience.

Has anyone else caught a leg of this tour? If you get the opportunity to attend, please do. You will not regret it. And you will probably not go home reeking of pot, soaking in beer, or annoyed as hell.

I was planning on seeing him at the state fair this summer. Glad to hear it should be good!

Ooh, I would love to see Weird Al in person! I’m not surprised that the audience was nice. All the Weird Al fans that I’ve met have been cool people. Geeky, but cool.

The nicest audience I’ve ever seen was at a Devo concert in the 1980s. This was also the audience with the largest number of funny hats.

I saw him on the Poodle Hat tour a few years back. My audience was similar.

I saw him for the Running With Scissors tour, and I had pretty much the same experience. It was more like attending a comedy act than a rock concert. People were laughing and singing along and having a good time, but not going wild.

I don’t remember which tour I saw him for, but I think it was in the same place (Pompano Beach). I had the same experience - a very fun show.

Weird Al Yankovic himself is generally well behaved, and he’s known for treating people well. It should come as no surprise that his fans behave in a similar manner when he’s performing in concert.

I’m seeing him on Thursday for the, oh, eleventh or twelfth time. (Most of these were on the Running with Scissors tour, when I was thirteen and somehow convinced my parents to take me every time he was in the area.) It’ll be my ten-year-old sister’s first time seeing him in concert.

On the Running with Scissors tour, I somehow managed to score backstage passes twice, leading to my having a pillow and a spatula signed by Al and most of his band. Here’s a picture from the first time - I’m the one whose hair looks like Al’s did in the early 90s.

I saw him in the fall of 2000 here in New Orleans at the Saenger theater. It was a pretty cool concert and pretty much a fun for all ages type of concert and crowd. One thing though… the opening act was a guy who had one a local comedy club contest to appear. He started off fine, but then his act became rather “blue” and he was immediately taken off stage, presumably because of all the young Weird Al fans in the audience.

My husband, 10-year-old daughter and I already have our tickets for when he comes to the Minnesota State Fair this August! I’ve seen him once before, also at the State Fair, during the Running with Scissors tour. He’s been here once since then, too, but I had to work and couldn’t go. My husband and daughter went, though–it was my daughter’s first concert!

It’s a great all-ages concert, and my daughter just loves him. I’m really looking forward to it.

I saw him during his Poodle Hat tour, when he came to Australia for the first time - and the concert was on my birthday, so how could I pass that up?

It was great fun! A very energetic and geeky time was had by all.
