Weird Dance In MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE ADVERT

I have seen the ad for the Mitsubishi Eclipse sportscar, and am wodering what kind of dance the girl in the passenger seat is doing! She is either spastic, or is performing a dance which I’ve never seen before-she bobs and weaves her head and arms in some very strange fashion-anybody know what the hell she is doing?

Moving to the music.

Never heard of it?

Never seen that kind of dance before? You’re making me feel old. Kids these days…

It’s an early variant of breakdancing called popping and locking.

Here’s a description:

Well, 10% of my viewing pleasure comes from thinking it looks as though it was shot and then played backwards.
Now watch it again and tell me it doesn’t look a little like that.

I don’t know but she’s kinda cute in an Olive Oil type of way.

It’s called pop-locking now for short.

So they’re trying to sell a “hot” car, to young people, by using a dance form that is, what, 20+ years old?

Anyway, my take on the ad is that I thought this poor woman was having some sort of seizure. In one of the shots that shows the driver’s face, could he be thinking “If I take this turn just right, and unhook her seat belt, she should fall out… darn, gotta open the door somehow, too.”

While we are onthe topic of that car commercial, what is the song they play, and who is it by?

“Days go By” by Dirty Vegas.

Supposedly, they are “a british pop group they made their debut with the TV Commercial on March 11. They felt that it would be better to try the music with the commercial first before releasing their CD in the U.S.”. This was sent by someone to me via PM just now.

They have a website, where you can hear the song.

Since the thread is now about anything…when I first saw the commercial my main thought was “She must be the top half to the bottom half of the guy in the Levi’s commercial.”

Well, pop locking may have been “invented” many years ago but people still do it now. It’s more a part of the hip hop scene I suppose. As a young person, I’m hardly persuaded to buy that car because anyone is pop locking in it, though. Maybe they should have gotten a significantly better looking chick to do it. Or made a better car.

I like that commercial.

– Funny!
