Weird is not Necessarily Entertaining (stage performance)

This is a rant but it’s mild and art related so I put it here. Basically I am annoyed with the mainstreaming of weird choreography. I don’t want to look at a weirdo in a dress bouncing on a tightrope. If I did I could go to Cirque du Soleil. I am watching the Superbowl because I like football. I’m watching the halftime show because my wife won’t let me fastforward through it. I don’t wanna be subjected to Madonna’s latest fantasy of having slaves pull her chariot around. When I turn on the NBA All-Star Game I don’t wanna watch Nicki Minaj imitate Lady Gaga. I don’t wanna watch Lady Gaga do her thing either.

People have their own thing, sure. And given the huge following these women have gathered you can’t argue that their thing doesn’t have mass appeal. But I don’t like it. And it bothers me too that I’m finding myself wanting something a bit more wholesome or at least less bizarre than what the networks are offering up. That’s never happened before. So this is doubly unsettling.

I used to be cool but then I took an arrow to the hip.
