At every opening night of a LOTR movie, the same group of people get up and sing the Star Spangled Banner before the movie starts.
(For ROTK they also entertained the crowd with “If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands.”)
Surely West Virginia’s nerds aren’t the only ones with boisterous LOTR crowds. What have you seen them do in your neck of the woods?

Here, they’re paying $50 to watch the extended editions of the first two films, followed by the ROTK. In one sitting.
It was $25 for us to do the trilogy, and that was a one-time event. Cool, though! Prices varied by location, I guess.
Aside from costumes (to sit in a dark theater???) there wasn’t any particular craziness. Just lots of enthusiasm.

I saw a LOTR-themed wedding on CNN. Also saw a Star Wars themed one covered by Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. We geeks are SO silly!

How about a kid that went to see RotK the first “night”, staying out until past 4am, when he had two finals the next day.
That is just plain nuts. It’s going to be in the theater probably for a couple of weeks. College first, then movies. Sheesh.
Hey, opening night only happens once.
Although I didn’t feel any great urge to dress up for it.
