Weird YouTube problem -- My computer or YouTube?

This problem just started in the last few days, and I haven’t had anything different happen on my computer, but it has me stumped.

A couple of times, after watching a YouTube video, I will pause or cancel at the end, and close the page and go to something else – but the audio for the video starts up again in the background.

I can’t seem to shut the audio file off.
I can go to Task Manager and see that a Windows Audio app is running, but I tell it o End Task, it blinks 0% for a second and the audio continues. Nothing I do will stop the audio file from playing short of rebooting.

I can start and stop the same video again, but that does nothing. If I start anything new with audio in it, both play over each other.

Tonight I watched a video and closed the window it was in, but the audio track automatically went to the next video in line and started playing.

This doesn’t happen all the time, but I sure get tired of having to reboot my computer just to stop and audio track and listen to something else.

Is this siome glitch on YouTube or has my computer found a new way to torment me?

thanks for being as detailed as you were. however … you never stated your operating-system or your browser. and does this also happen on vimeo.com or any other media website such as news-casts and the like … or only youtube. aside from that … i checked google and found bunch of hits … some might help you in tracking down the ghost of this coming christmas.

I am using Win 10 and Edge for the browser. I do not visit other video sites like YouTube, so I haven’t noticed it anywhere else, even if they have a video window open up.

Just seems to be YouTube.

I believe what albino was suggesting is to go to other video sites to see if the same problem occurs to rule out a Youtube specific problem.

I would suspect that because you could not end task the problem lies in your audio software/hardware. I would remove the device in device manager then reboot and reinstall with the updated driver.
