People who come to this country illegally are, in fact, committing a crime. There is a mechanism to get here legally. Yes, it’s arduous, yes, it’s a pain in the ass, but it’s also the law in every country in the world. Why do you think that we should exempt people from this requirement? Would we be exempt from that requirement anywhere?
The rest of your OP is utter nonsense. There are laws that discriminate on some arbitrary basis and there are laws that discriminate on a non-arbitrary basis. There’s not a single immigrant group that is being singled out by our current laws. Mexico, by virtue of its proximity, comprises the largest group of immigrants that are affected by the laws, but it doesn’t affect them any more than it would a European or an African.
I am not going to apologize for my good fortune. I was lucky that I was born here. It’s unfortunate that others are born in horrible places, and I feel for them. It’s unfortunate that some people have to struggle to make a living due to circumstances beyond their control. I feel for them as well. But that does not give them an excuse to break the laws of this country. If they want to come here for a better life, I will welcome them with open arms if they do so legally. There are people who have been making Herculean efforts to come here legally for years. Why should people who are trying to function within the laws of the society they wish to enter be dismissed so blithely in favor of people who snuck in the back door?
