Our baby girl was born August 5, weighing 5 lbs 13 oz or 2637 grams (by some strange coincidence, exactly the same as I weighed when I was born). My water broke around 1:30am, as I was getting ready for bed, and she was born at 6:50pm.
I had to have a C-section, since she got very stuck trying to come out the other way. They had to resuscitate her after she came out, so she spent a week in the NICU. Since she was born, though, the news has all been good. They did an MRI, and everything looks normal. She came home from the hospital with us on Sunday. I have had three obstetricians tell me that any subsequent children I have will be by planned C-section. Evidently, my pelvis is too narrow to get a baby out the other way, which we didn’t know until I tried pushing her out. I’m really glad I live in the 21st century.
I’m sore and very tired, and learning how to take care of a baby, but we’re glad to have her home. I’m breastfeeding her, and that is going well.
The Neville kitties don’t know quite what to make of all this. They’ve sniffed her a couple of times, but we’re keeping them out of the pack-n-play and the bassinet, and only allowing them to interact with her when someone is around to supervise.
