So I'm Having a Baby Today

God laughs at people who make plans - or so I’ve been told.

Today is my first day of maternity leave. I had a lovely two weeks of relaxing planned before my cesarean section on May 19.

At 4.30am this morning I woke up to a slight trickle of liquid and though “oh dear god I’ve finally lost control of my pelvic floor”. Thought nothing more of it until there was some bloody discharge. Visited the hospital and the doctor did an exam - and it appears my membranes have indeed ruptured!

So at 6pm this evening I am having a C.Section and sometime after that Leechboy and I will finally be able to meet our daughter!

Still in shock here - they have sent us home from the hospital to pick up a few final things and to kill some time.

So strange. I only finished work yesterday. We put my hospital bags in the car this morning ‘just in case’ but didn’t think we’d need them.

 I’m having a baby today

Congratulations! How exciting!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

My SIL just had hers yesterday … baby boy, 7lb 4oz, 21 1/2 inches born at 4:52 PM.
Let us know how everything goes, and remember - when we make plans, God laughs!

Lots of luck to you. I hope you enjoyed the few hours of relaxation that you had, because they are likely the last ones you’ll see for a while.

First baby?

It’s really the best thing that will ever happen to you. It’s a bumpy road, but nothing in the world is more worth it!

Enjoy the blessing…

Congratulations! It is a delight. An exhausting, terrifying, overwhelming delight. I miss having a newborn; they are so wonderful and soft and still.

Sleep when the baby does. No, really.

Hee hee! Good luck!

Wait a minute–is it May 1 there? Will you be having a Mayday baby?

Congratulations, good luck, and in 13 years, tell the kid to register for the SDMB!

Hehe, I remember when I started a thread with a remarkably similar title. Congrats, and welcome to the world, Leechbaby!

Why do you ask ** Green Bean**? Is it because we MayDay Babies are so stunningly wonderful that you must worship at the new one’s feet or what?

All May Day babies must be worshipped, including me!

Happy birthday, Avarie! (And mnemosyne, if you’re reading this.

Good heavens! Good luck! Congratulations!

Congratulations, leechbabe! Babies make new parents sleep-deprived, or so I hear from my friend G… he and Mrs. G recently had Baby G on St. Patrick’s Day.

Avarie537, mnemosyne, and Green Bean: get yer butts over to the SDMB May Birthday thread, so y’all can be officially recognized as having an SDMB May Birthday[sup]TM[/sup]. (just kidding: it’s not official recognition, since you obviously have one… but it’d be cool for you to pop in there if ya wanted to)

Congrats! Babies are wonderful!

I forgot to mention this earlier, but my niece also spoiled the plans so carefully laid by my sister-in-law and mother. They had both bought mother’s and grandmother’s rings, respectively, that had a March birthstone. They baby was born April 1st, which is also April Fool’s Day. D’oh!

Whoops… that link in my last post should be Ghq.

That other link is valid, I’m sure… but it won’t be the site that I wanted to link to. (though I’m guessing you could eventually get to Ghq if you clicked on the link in my previous post… I haven’t tried it yet though, so no guarantees there)

Hmm, it’s almost 7pm in Melbourne now. All the best, Leechbabe and Leechboy! Look forward to welcoming you back with the bub.

Congratulations!

Welcome to the world, Leechlette

Hope it’s an easy delivery and you bounce back as well as can be expected, hon. Take it easy and enjoy the new addition to your family

When you’ve recovered we’ll throw you a G’Dope party
