Josephine Violet was born at 4:35 AM on 1/31/09, 8 pounds 1 ounce, 20 inches long. She’s the most beautiful and perfect baby in the world, if I do say so myself. Mellow, hardly ever cries, with an eerie sense of comedic timing and a fascination with mobiles and ceiling fans. Getting her here was a bit crazy–she was born by true emergency c-section after a prolapsed cord, and only through the cooperation of my midwives, the emergency squad, and the surgical team is she even here with us today. It’s eerie–had I been planning a hospital birth I would have been home alone when the cord came out and we would have lost her (it happened VERY early in labor), but instead I had two amazing midwives who knew exactly what to do and did it perfectly. Her aunties Nina and Jill will always be very special to her.
Fantastic news! What a gorgeous baby (and a beautiful name! – will you call her Jo?).
Of course a C-section is never what you hope for, but I had one with my first baby as well, and the recovery was surprisingly easy. I hope yours is also.
I have heard the term “babymoon” used elsewhere and always thought it was a great way to describe those early weeks when you are thrown into a whole new world and learning all about this strange and wonderful new person in your care. So happy babymoon to all of you!
That’s scary about the cord - my daughter’s cord was wrapped around her neck twice. We were at the hospital though so no problems. Congrats also to the two midwives, emergency squad and surgical team for helping you through it.
YAY!
LOVE her name! Love, love, love the name Josephine. Like great gooey globs of pure unfiltered LOVE. My daughter, who is not a Josephine, would have been named Josephine, if my husband hadn’t poo-poohed the name Josephine.
If I ever get another cat, it will be named Josephine.
