Welcome Syphilis... I mean SyFy

Today is the first day of the all new SyFy Channel, with their new catchphrase, “Imagine Greater”.

Yeah, I am imagining a greater science fiction channel. If it wasn’t for Eureka and the new Warehouse 13, which I’m hoping will be something worth watching, I wouldn’t even tune to you anymore.

Ignore…

Abort/Retry/Fail…

I think this will find its audience in Cafe Society.

Does Warehouse 13 start tonight?

Yes, Warehouse 13 starts tonight. I’m looking forward to it.

Hmmm… swhyfwhy. Nope, don’t like it, don’t like it at all.

Oh, excellent. I need to make sure I’ve got the DVR set up to record it. I’ve had a crush on the female lead ever since Jeremiah.

I wonder what abomination of a display they’ll have at Comic-Con this year. The SciFi Network used to be cool, and gave away cool stuff. SyFy, OTOH…

Their new logo sucks.

Let it be known.

By their own admission the change will allow them to expand the kind of programs that they can show.

I said before that that sounds to me like they will be able to show Chariots of the Gods (fiction anyhow) as well as Chariots of fire.

Oh, Christ. It’s not even SyFy. It’s Syfy.

Rhymes with iffy.

From your lips to the Syfy gods ears.

You know it doesn’t like to be called that.

They only have that swoopy froo froo font they’ve chosen for the new logo to blame for any confusion on that count.

Imagine greater? Imagine lamer.

That’s not confusion. Look at the copyright notice at the bottom of the page. My browser pane also has heading “Syfy: Imagine Greater”.

I can’t decide if watching “Warehouse 13” rewards the channel for dissing on the fans, or ignoring the programming I might like punishes me by justifying them making less of it.

They announced on their Twitter they will be giving away some of the old-logo merchandise in Twitter contests and suchlike. As much as I don’t like the new name, the Twitter guy has been responsive and reasonable and fairly interesting. I’m hooked on Eureka and am looking forward to Warehouse 13.

Would love to see the Eureka panel at ComicCon this year - someday. I’ll wait til a year Colin Ferguson can make it. He’s filming in Bulgaria this summer and can’t make it. The video I’ve seen of him other years have been a hoot. He’s FUNNY.

I don’t know about this Warehouse 13 idea. I mean, how many cliches are shoved in here?
Secret government facility with hi-tech stuff/ancient magic artifacts? Check.
Straight laced female agent with “fast and loose” male agent? Check.
Crazy, eccentric old man to guide the two aforementioned people? Check.
Wacky adventures the two go on to lead them to more ancient artifacts? Check.

You know, as crappy as the name is, I like the new ad.

Colin’s fun, but Ed Quinn’s funnier. I’ve seen every panel they’ve done at Comic-Con, and Ed always has everybody in hysterics.

I’m still going to register my distaste for the new logo. Maybe I’ll piss on their display…
