Well hello

Where the hell have you all been?

Who me? I been busy. Busy kicking cancer’s butt. Just wanted you to know why I haven’t been around lately. Seems I had me a little tumor on the back of my tongue back in July. And lucky me…it was cancerous. The surgeon said I had a 50 50 chance of living through this thing and wanted to start cutting asap which would have resulted in speech and swallowing therapy.

I opted to have chemo and radiation instead (don’t worry girls of the SD I still have my hair and am as handsome as ever).

Anyway I went with the “Standford Plan”. That’s 6 weeks of radiation twice a day with chemo the first and last week. The most brutal but most effective treatment to date. It wasn’t pretty. I went from 175 lbs to 143 lbs in 6 weeks.

But here’s the good news. The stanford plan worked! I went back for my MRI and scope last week and was declared cancer free. Since then I have rebounded back to svelte155 lbs.
More good news to report, my song Western Union was used in the Cameron Crowe movie “Vanilla Sky”. Listen for it during the love scene with Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. They only used 8 seconds of it but it netted me a quick 3000.00 :stuck_out_tongue: . ( Ohh thank you Cameron and paramount pictures )

Anyway that’s my update and thanks for listening. It’s good to be at large and writing to all you newbies and hardcore dopers out there again. If you are ever down my way stop in for a glass of iced tea.

You don’t suppose that Cecil would welcome me back do you? Naa probably not…

Wow! We were wondering where you were in another thread the other day, but we had no idea you were going through such an ordeal. Good to hear you have it licked!!

And glad you got some royalties!

Good to see you back!

And nice work on the song!

Wow.

I’m so glad you’re doing well. It’s great to hear from you.

And the royalties thing? Way to go!

We missed you.

Hey! It’s hoo-ha, or whatever…

Been wondering what happened to you. Glad to hear the good news though and glad to have you back, cuz frankly, I was afriad my last memory of you on these boards would be that “You ever shit your pants” thread, and that’d be so anticlimatic after that holding the puppy hostage thread.

That’s YOUR song?! And they only gave you $3,000?! You’re getting gyped! Why isn’t it on the soundtrack? Those were the best eight seconds of the whole movie!

Welcome back. In case you didn’t notice, we’ve all been gone for several weeks since the Boards crashed in early February. So now we get these Phabulous Phaces

YYYAAAYYY!!! to kicking the evil monster, and …

YYYAAAYYY!!! to having you back with us, safe and sound!

[sub]and sending a prayer your way, too…[/sub]

Much Love,

Scotti

He’s not a hoooooha!

aha, I’m glad you’re well, and also was wondering where you were.

I was thinking of you the other day, I heard your song on the radio! I said “Holy crow! I know that guy!”. It impressed the hell out of my son. He says hello to Mr. Rock Star.

I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced but I’ve enjoyed your Dope wisdom for quite some time.

Glad to see you’re back. Every time someone would use the exclamation “aha!”, I would resist the urge to post a smartass remark and would wonder where the heck you were.

YAY, aha’s back! I’ve wondered where you were and why you left us. I’m sorry to hear it was for such a scary reason, but thrilled that you battled it and won - Go You!

Welcome back, hon!

Who the hell are you?

And now I suddenly know why that particular scene bugged me so much…my hair stood on end, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it…

Welcome back, and I’m glad you’re alright!

((((aha))))

Damn, it’s good to see you.

Much love,
Cristi

Wow. That’s the most impressive “Why I’ve been gone” story I’ve ever heard.

Damn what sweet people. Now I remember why I missed you all so much.

Congratulations on kicking cancer’s ass, aha! Wonderful to have you back and healthy. IMHO, this certainly DOES warrant another personal welcome from Unca Cece!

Oh *sure * you’ve been out sick and had Standford & Son treatment…You realize, you will need to provide a Doctor’s note for your absence
How in the heck did you discover you had cancer on your tongue?
Did you feel it? did the doctor see it?

I’ve never heard of tongue cancer.

And how did cancer of the tongue affect your typing fingers? You couldn’t have told us what you were going through so we could be worried sick? Instead, you decide to act like everybody in my family and not tell anybody until after you had licked it, so to speak? And how many times are you going to have to hear that pun?

And explain this: I have always heard that nice people get cancer and assholes have heart attacks. How, then, did you end up with cancer?

Welcome back, you old reprobate! I’m glad we didn’t lose you the hard way.

Glad your doing well. I have you know I am on a first name basis with most of the people at the oldies station where I call twice a week (still) to request your song

The way I figure it I have earned you quite a tidy sum. SHould keep you in the god aweful wine you prefer to drink.

Of course if I ever get that way I expect not only a glass of tea but a glazed doughnut as well!

Glad your back you attenton Whore!!

Osip

(Yikes, there’s all kinds of new-fangled stuff on the reply page!)

aha, that is wonderful news! I’ve been wondering what happened to you - the SDMB isn’t the same without your occasional little bouts of insanity here and there. Congrats on beating the monster! Damn, you just made my day - I was feeling kinda down till I saw your post. Whooeee! (That’s supposed to be a rebel yell, in case you’re wondering.)

I’ve thought of you fairly often lately - a new radio station just started up here locally, and they play fifties, sixties, and early seventies ‘oldies’, and have a ‘request hour’ every day around lunch time. So, remembering about you and the royalties thing, I started calling several times a week to request “Western Union” (which I happen to like a lot anyway). Figured one nice thing I could do in the world was contribute another 50 cents or so to your pocket whenever I had the chance!

So tune your ears up to the max tomorrow, hon, and see if you can catch the faint strands of music drifting your way, because sometime between 12:00 and 1:00 pm CST they’ll be playing your song again!

After reading this thread, I don’t know if I’ll sing along at the top of my lungs (be glad you can’t hear me) or cry all the way through it - probably both, which will surely make the neighbor’s dogs howl!

Three cheers and big, big hug for aha!

Hey, aha. Glad you are back. You are welcome down here in Dallas any time you wanna make the trip. We’ll keep a light on for ya.

Jim
