So Walter Lang has decided to make an honest woman of me, and he has asked me to marry him. I said yes.
Omigod! Omigod! A Christmas Eve proposal? Did he surprise you with a ring? Where were you guys when this came up? Who else knows besides us?
We know, WL had a thread about how to ask you a couple weeks ago.
Did he take my advice? Has the cobra venom worn off?
(Okay, congrats too :))
He totally surprised me with the ring. We were in the living room and he gave me a gift to open - it was big blue fluffy slippers with chicadees all over them. I was cutting of the tag and noticed another gift stuffed in there. I pulled it out and it was a small (ring sized) box. So I got sort of excited and opened it and it was a…necklace. It’s very pretty and I was looking at it and admiring my slippers when he got on one knee and wipped the real ring box out and asked me.
We’ve told my parents and family, his parents and family and my best friend. And you dopers of course!
It was pretty cool. Uh, no cobra venom - he must be saving that for New Years…
…or the honeymoon!

Mazel tov!
Aw, how cool! Delivery is everything.
Are we invited?
Okay so you would prefer to spend steamy evenings with your loved one rather than me? Point taken.
Is that bad?
Congrats!!!
Congratulations, mate! (What’s this about cobra venom?)
Congratulations!
What! Another Doper engagement? Did y’all meet here? Omigod. Who’s next? What other Dopers have been smooching under that mistletoe? sly look
None of that matters. What I want to know is…
… did you stick the ring up your nose yet?
Congratulations, Alice! Woohoo! What’s the ring look like?
Nay - Walter and I didn’t meet on the dope. We met here.
I have not shoved the ring up my nose yet. I have to admit that hadn’t occured to me until you mentioned it. Perhaps after the cobra venom.
Ginger, it’s an emerald cut green tourmaline center stone set in white gold, flanked by diamonds. It’s really pretty. (I’m not a huge fan of the big diamond solitaire type set up for myself.) It looks a bit like this, actually.
Congrats Alice!!!
best wishes!
This past November, I celebrated the 20th anniversary of my marriage to my husband. Without a doubt, marriage is the very smartest, bestest thing I’ve ever done in my life. If you marry the right person, it’s wonderful.
I wish you and Walter all the best!
Ah yes, I remember that thread. Good to know that things went well, even though our paths didn’t cross at BP’s the night you had your first date. Congratulations to you and Walter!
Congratulations! So, you did decide to go with the cradle-robbing, eh? Good for you.
(Lovely ring, too!)
