Governor’s Mansion manager prepares surprise party - for himself
As he has done hundreds of times, Jerome Cummings supervised preparations for a fancy VIP luncheon today at the Governor’s Mansion, not knowing that he was the guest of honor.
From gardeners to governors, about 50 admirers of the mansion manager were quietly smuggled under a big tent on the north lawn to pay tribute to the man whose unseen hand has kept social functions running smoothly for 30 years.
Cummings had been told that a group of legislators was coming to the mansion - a common occurrence during sessions - but Gov. Jeb Bush had secretly engineered a surprise party for him.
For the full story, see tomorrow’s Tallahassee Democrat.
If that doesn’t sound like something a Bush would do…
Next Ol’ Jeb will empty Mr. Cummings bank account so he can give him a raise…
wait.
Didn’t his brother already do something like this?

You think giving someone a surprise party is giving them a kick in the crotch?
Your children must dread birthdays…

Gladly don’t have any but if I did, I certainly wouldn’t have them doing the work on their own party.
“Nobody EVER chooses the car!”
You think it’s in good taste to have the guest of honour work his ass off to prepare a banquet that is suppost to thank him for years working his ass off?
“Get to work! We’re throwing a VIP a party.”
So the “surprise” was that it was in his honour all along. Yippee.
I hate ol’ Jeb as much as the next Democrat, but I think this story is neat.
Sure, he worked on his own party. He also got payed for it. It’s a joke, and a pretty good one.
Besides, after 30 years on the job I have a feeling tossing together a simple VIP luncheon isn’t too taxing.
