Summer in the Pacific Northwest was typically glorious. How much better than my oven-like apartment in L.A. was! And then a couple of weeks ago, the weather began to waver. It started to cool down. Instead of days in the 80s, it was in the high-60s or low-70s. On the Equinox, it was like flipping a switch. Definitely in the 60s now. This morning is sunny and beautiful, cool at about 50º, and the wind is blowing. Soon I’ll have to attend to falling leaves, especially on the roof and in the gutters. (I hate working on top of the house. Not that I worry about falling, but it’s just such a bother.)
I have one of the French doors half-open. Too bad I’m at work. It would be a nice day to be out and about. At least I have the front curtains and the door blinds open so I can see outside. The cedar bits are coming out of the trees like snow flurries.
I’m still holding out for one more beach day. It’d be nice to make it a nice even 33 times this year. (But who’s counting?)
Last year I put my bathing suit away for the year, then we had a last minute (Columbus Day) extra summer. I spent the long weekend at the beach. Two weeks later I went south for another beach vacation and froze my nubbins off.
I guess because you’re a ways north of Seattle, you’re getting more fall-like weather. It’s been in the low 70s most days down here. It is nice and cool at night.
Be grateful, we are usually wet by now. When we say goodbye to the sun, it won’t be back much 'til spring.
I’ve noticed the leaves aren’t turning as quickly as in past years. The street I live on is tree-lined with, I believe, elms. It runs east & west. The same kind grow on a cross street that runs north and south too. The ones on my street turn yellow, and have turned. But, the ones on the cross street turn many shades of red, from mauve, to scarlet. That street is still green.
The fall colors are usually at their peak by ther first week of October. Not this year. If the weather stays like it is, we aren’t going to have a very colorful season. We’ll have a storm and they’ll go from green to naked.
