Well, the World Cup game between Korea and the US just started (spoilers!)...

and I, for one, hope that the US team treads most heavily upon the ribs of the Korean team. I’m talking a MAJOR blow-out… like 30-0!

“Why?” you ask.

I’ll tell ya:

I am fucking SICK of hearing about that cocky bastard Apollo Ohno, and I want the fucking Koreans to fucking get OVER it already! GOD DAMN! I’ve been hearing about how Kim Dong Sucker (or whatever his name is) got robbed, and that Ohno cheated, and that the fix was on from the beginning, etc. since the Olympics ended, and that was MONTHS ago!

Did you know that Korean slang for a cheater is now “Ohno”?

Ironic, as cheating is so rampant here as to be considered (by one of the directors of our program) “part of our culture.”

Did Kim get ripped off? Hell if I know… I’m no skating judge; and I know nothing about the sport! Furthermore, I don’t care! I MAY have cared, briefly, during the Olympics… but my care quickly dissolved when I saw Kim throw his country’s flag to the ice, and storm off like a frustrated 3 year-old when he was disqualified. What a fucking BABY! I thought…

So I hope the US stomps Korea’s ass in this game… at least I’ll have something new to hear my students whine about.

USA! USA! USA!!!

(off to watch the game now…)

Okay, it’s over now. It was a draw. That’s the result I was hoping for, actually. A good week for sports: Tyson gets his ass kicked and Korea/US ends in a draw!

Astroboy14, you know darn well that if the US had won, we’d have been listening to our students make excuses for the next 100 years. The referees were unfair! The Americans cheated! The wind blew that ball out of the goal! The Christian God was on the Americans side because too many Koreans are Buddhist! The Korean government is a puppet of corrupt capitalists!

All I know is that for my 3:00 class, five students showed up. Five. The rest decided to skip the last class meeting of the semester, the one where they would review for the final exam and see their “class participation” grade (50% of the final grade), in order to watch a bunch of grown men running around on the grass kicking a ball.

If Korea had won, they’d have laughed about it for the next 3 generations. If America had won, Koreans would have blamed everyone on earth except their players, plus most Americans wouldn’t have known or cared anyway. I’m glad it was a draw.

Probably a draw was the best outcome. Peace reigns in my household (my wife is Korean). We & Korea each get a point, and there are no riots in Seoul (at least as far as I know, I haven’t checked the news lately).

Mine too–another reason that I was hoping for a draw. Neither of us care about the World Cup, and yet if either team had won, both of us would have felt. . . I don’t know, just a little weird. She’s been sick this week, so if one team had to win, I was sort of hoping for it to be Korea. Just to keep her from feeling worse than she already does.

No, no, no!!!
DEATH to the Korean team!!! If it weren’t for the Ohno BS, I wouldn’t care… but I’m sick of that shit!! I want something else for our students to whine about!!

Oh, well… maybe later we’ll crush Korea and then here will be something new to hear about…

Did you see the Korean player’s “skating” taunt after their only goal? Funny, I had completely forgotten about the whole Ohno - Korea thing, and had no idea what the heck that guy was doing… To each his own, I suppose.

Maybe we shouldn’t post the outcome when the title says no spoilers?

Spoliers only count for movies, when there is a chance that someone hasn’t seen it. Sporting events, however, can’t be spoiled.

Good thing it was a tie, because if the Koreans had lost, they probably would be rioting at this moment with lead pipes and anti-US slogan-bedecked headbands. I’ve never lived in a place with more of a passive-aggressive, play-the victim, population.

They can be spoiled, hence the sticky warning in MPSIMS and the discussion in ATMB about spoilers. Most of the time I’d agree with you, but given the international nature of the World Cup and the fact there are interested Dopers from the US to Australia it has upset a few people already.

A friend of mine was working on Friday during England vs Argentina, which was replayed on primetime TV on Friday evening. He made it until five minutes before kick-off before accidentally seeing the score. Nobly, he didn’t tell his girlfriend he’d seen the score as she watched the game.

Adjusted thread title.

Thanks, Coldie!

Er, um, sorry if I spoiled anything. I wasn’t thinking. I just assumed that the scores, if not the game, would be broadcast all around the world pretty much live. My bad.

So that’s what that was. I had no idea when I saw the taunt after the goal. Huh, almost makes sense now, but why do they care so much about short track speed skating?

The US curling team was robbed I tell you! Our brooms were tampered with!
