And I believe that I am the Queen of Aldinium and wear a shiny hat.
But that does not make it so.

The View used to be semi-decent when Meredith Vieira and Lisa Ling were on. It’s unwatchable now. Adding McCarthy is a desperate ratings grab that might actually succeed for a short time, but I suspect (or hope anyway) that the show is in its death throes.
I think you meant “preventing”?
I probably meant to write that rubella is a risk factor for autism whereas the MMR helps prevent it. So it turns out that the MMR shot really is linked to autism. Just not in the way the ant-vax nutters think.
I’m the last person who’s going to defend McCarthy’s beliefs. But the question was asked and I was answering it.
Does McCarthey have much of a following? I honestly couldn’t remember why she was famous aside from the anti-vaxx thing, and looking at her wikipedia page..she was a model 20 years ago and had a mediocre movie career since? Is there some source of McCarthy fans I’m unaware of that would tune in to the View to see her?
Yeah, that’s what I gathered from your link.
Before she became known as the anti-vax nutjob, I knew her from:
Playboy
She cohosted “Singled Out” on MTV in the 90s.
She sucked the chrome off a trailer hitch in BASEketball.
She was Jim Carrey’s SO for a while.
So, I’m with you in not seeing her as a huge draw for viewers.
I have watched “The View” several times over the years when they had a guest I wanted to see. I have seen “The Talk” a few times as well, but I cannot stand Sharon Osborne’s voice, so that is a huge detriment for me watching that show. I don’t understand how anyone could hire someone with such an irritating voice! I may tune into the view to see Jenny, and I wish her well.
They’ve already had a host who said she didn’t know if the Earth was flat or not.Really.
I’m not big on wishing people ill, but Jenny McCarthy has earned it.
Salon sums it up:
Just don’t read the comments unless you want to scream. Anti-vax loons are all over it spreading bad information and siding with contagious diseases. Ugh.
This might actually be a good decent business decision. There are a lot of *anti-vaxxers out there, and, after all, the producers are marketing a product that they hope will attract viewers.
Aside from McCarthy, though, I’ve never been a “View” watcher, but I’ll have to start recording it. I’ve always been of the opinion that the hosts–once you get past all the jokes–are at best airheads, and probably tend toward moronic–but I’ll give them a fair shake.
*Possibly confirmation bias, but it seems the more vocal anti-vaxxers seem to be women–at least to me.
Yabbut a lot of people could believe the world is flat without it causing disease, disfigurement and death.
Sherry is pretty darn stupid, she’s in a class all her own. I remember when she was just a guest host a few times and I thought she was just being funny but after she made co-host she really let her stupid flag fly.
The show where they announced the new co-host they also discussed the George Zimmerman trial and she babbled on about how she taught her son if someone was following him he should confront that person and now what should she be teaching him? If she was teaching him to confront suspicious people following him instead of seeking help from someone else/calling the police then she’s darn lucky nothing has happened to the kid so far. They pretty much ignored her and went on talking but the guest had just looked at her like “what the f…?”.
I’m a parent of a child with autism so I’m in several groups on Facebook. I argue regularly with parents who sing McCarthy’s praises because they’ve read the books and for some reason it makes them feel empowered, and that if they just manage to find the right combination of foods/supplements/therapy, their child will no longer have autism.
It disgusts me that she gives those parents false hope through praising “alternative” treatments on top of lying about the dangers of immunizations. This will only make the numbers of her followers grow. More money will be wasted on again and again disproving the connection instead of spending every dollar on real research.
Do you hope this will help her further her anti-vax agenda?
I’m generally not the petition signing type, but I’d sign this one. Are there any online?
I don’t watch The View, but this is offensive.
She’s also written (presumably via ghost writer) several best-selling books, mostly about her experiences with motherhood. I’ll admit that the book about her pregnancy is funny in places; yes, I did get it at the library.
BTW, even before the news broke about her publicity stunt (I mean disabled child), the dirt on the end of her marriage said that it was because she had numerous affairs with both men and women. I find that more believable than I care to admit.
Maybe next they can hire someone who believes in eugenics.
