Does McCarthey have much of a following? I honestly couldn’t remember why she was famous aside from the anti-vaxx thing, and looking at her wikipedia page..she was a model 20 years ago and had a mediocre movie career since? Is there some source of McCarthy fans I’m unaware of that would tune in to the View to see her?

That’s an excellent point- more specifically, how is a former Playboy centerfold supposed to appeal to 40 year old suburban housewives, who are the target audience for The View?

I can see why producers of a show aimed at their 40 year old husbands (like, say, ESPN’S Sports Nation) might think she’d bring in some viewers, but why would middle-aged WOMEN want to watch Jenny McCarthy?

Somebody like, I dunno, Debbie (“Call me Deborah!”) Gibson might have some appeal to the women who watch The View, but she’d add nothing to a show aimed at men. Same principle.

I have a link but I have been told I am not allowed to post it here. Anyone who wants the link is welcome to pm me. I also have phone numbers where you can call officials at ABC and directly voice your contempt for Jenny. At the very least it can’t hurt to let them know that bad science mongers are not looked at favorably by many members of their viewing audience.

Incidentally Baba Wawa was out sick recently. Why? Because she had the chicken pox. What sane person would get such a nasty infection and then give a job to a loon who argues against measures that would protect others from it? Not exactly a red letter day for the doyenne of television journalists.

I had never even heard about that before, as I don’t keep up with celeb news. I have seen her maybe one or two times on tv over the years, and she seems like a nice lady. I don’t even really watch tv that much, people are surprised when I tell them I have only seen “Seinfeld” once.

Oh, dear Lord; I made the mistake of reading some of the comments from this article talking about how Jenny McCarthy has the wrong view on vaccinations. I was hoping someone would correct her, that whooping cough is not caused by a virus but by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, and instead I got a double eyeful of teh stupid. :smack:

Just as an aside, because we were curious, my husband and I looked up how many antigens children are exposed to compared to the 20 or so they get in all their vaccination shots. It’s estimated that the human body can generate 10 billion antibodies - I think a child’s immune systems can handle two or three antigens at a time! :eek:
Whitney, it’s good that you have an open mind, but do a bit of research on Jenny McCarthy - she’s not an admirable person. She is using her celebrity to injure children, and that’s not good. Reducing herd immunity affects all of us, too, not just children.

The HuffPo is a notorious hive of villainy and scum on any medical issue. They routinely run the most outrageous garbage on vaccines. I believe at one point David Kirby of the ridiculous anti-vax book Evidence of Harm was one of their columnists. Kim “My Kids Have Autism From Vaccines and Don’t You Dare Disagree With Me” Stegliano was also a columnist.

OTOH, I know a lot of people who would watch such a program. And I don’t want them to get uninformed, incorrect, and unhealthy information. These are my relatives and friends.

An ex-classmate (immunology grad student) posted a link to the online petition (which I signed). Shortly after, another ex-classmate (biology BS, veterinary techonoogy BVT, CVT) starting arguing that Jenny should have her space, and against the vaccines and vaccination schedule. He’s not completely anti-vaxx, he follows one of those alternative schedules (or so he says). Still, he went on and on about it.
