One of the leagues I’m in had their draft last night. Since I was completely woolgathering, I forgot ( it’s too early for drafrts ). The embarassing thing is, I think I got a pretty strong team from the autodraft, maybe even better than I could have done on my own. :smack: It’s a small league, so teams are stronger, but still…
Tell me what y’all think:
Johnson, Brad (QB-TB)
Pennington, Chad (QB-NYJ)
Owens, Terrell (WR-SF)
Horn, Joe (WR-NO)
Mason, Derrick (WR-Ten)
Holmes, Priest (RB-KC)
Taylor, Fred (RB-Jac)
McMichael, Randy (TE-Mia)
Smith, Jimmy (WR-Jac)
Davis, Stephen (RB-Car)
Green, Trent (QB-KC)
Galloway, Joey (WR-Dal)
Thrash, James (WR-Phi)
Hilliard, Ike (WR-NYG)
Smith, Emmitt (RB-Ari)
Brady, Kyle (TE-Jac)
Feely, Jay (K-Atl)
Vanderjagt, Mike (K-Ind)
Atlanta (DEF-Atl)
New Orleans (DEF-NO)
Pick up a stable RB asap.
Davis, Taylor, and Smith are injury prone or old…and Holmes looked good the other night, but he is also coming off a serious injury.
You are loaded at WR…maybe package a WR with one of your RBs (Davis) and pick up a dependable RB somewhere.
In most leagues, you cannot have enough RBs…I generally draft RBs in the 1,2, and 5 rounds
Keep Davis. He will be pretty much all of Carolina’s offense this year, so no matter how badly they do he will be getting mucho carries in every game, and thus, lotsa yardage.
Pennington is a definite keeper, and Brad Johnson is a safe number 2… he has the 6th highest career passer rating, all time, if you can believe it (and, come to think of it, even if you can’t) although that perhaps isn’t hugely relevant to FF.
I’d drop Taylor (like JaxBeachBoy said, too injury prone), Derrick Mason, and New Orleans’ D to get a better backup defense if I were you- especially with Sammy Knight gone, I see NO giving up a lot of yardage this season. Go for the Titans if you can’t get one of the big three (Bucs, Dolphins, Steelers).
Priest Holmes just has far too much potential to drop, even with the injury questionmark.
I agree with JaxBeachBoy. I don’t think you’ll see much production from Emmit for sure. (Of course, now that I’ve said that he’ll probably have his best season ever)
I’d keep Priest, as I think he’ll have a great year. There’s just that nagging feeling that maybe he’ll reinjure himself.
Of course, I seem to always be last - So don’t listen to me.
That looks like a very solid team to me. I hope to do as well in my draft in 2 weeks.
Quick question–I have the #1 pick in my draft! Do you guys think I should grab Holmes or go the safer route and take Ricky Williams? Or any other ideas for a 1st pick? (I have a feeling Faulk is going to have a huge year)
I’d say you’ve got a 6 team league there. Solid team. I especially like your QBs - tons of upside. I’m going to guess that the other 5 all picked up QBs in the first two rounds. You have 4 1st and 2nd round picks in there!
Ignore the advice about the RBs. You’re set, and if it isn’t a keeper league, you’re golden. Back up Taylor with Toefeld (you can drop Brady - he isn’t going to do anything this year), and Priest with Larry Johnson (I have no idea who else you could drop, maybe Ike - try to package a 2 for 1 to make room).
What’s your starting roster? QB/2 RB/2 WR/TE/K/DEF/DL? With a small league, you may want to try to convince people to add a WR spot.
My first post in this thread was at 8:44 PM (ET) yesterday. That was almost six hours after my live draft in a Yahoo! Winners League . . . which I had forgotten about!!!
Could have been a little worse (could’ve had Michael Bennett drafted for me), but I’m not happy. I’ve got this year’s Edgerrin James (Holmes), and Tiki Barber (from my Giants, so I can have two football seasons ruined when he blows out his knee in week 2). There’s Jeff Garcia, who’s banged up and now in charge of a run-oriented offense, anyway (passed up Culpepper to get him, too). I’ve got two kickers, one of which was taken in the 8th fucking round (I never take one until the last round).
Shit, shit, shit! dil, I would take Williams, but you could make a case for LT or even Portis. Holmes carried my team last year, but I have no confidence in his ability to perform anywhere near the level he was at last year. I, personally, wouldn’t take him until the 5th or 6th pick, and even then I’d try to trade him.
dil… I’d take Tomlinson (although the other 11 players in my league have all announced they’ll take Ricky if they get #1).
You might want to consider Priest Holmes- he looked healthy to me during the Hall of Fame game, but he’s definitely a risk. On the other hand, a healthy Holmes carried the otherwise worst team in my league into the playoffs last season, and can certainly do so again.
dil, The top 3 picks on every list are Ricky Williams, Ladainian Tomlinson, and Clinton Portis in varying orders. Portis was a rookie last year so it’s hard to say if he’s the real deal or just a flash in the pan. Both Tomlinson and Williams have had 1200+ yards rushing the past 2 years. I would take one of those two with the #1 pick.
If this league is any bigger than 6 teams, I’d wager that many of the other owners don’t know what they are doing. You have 5 picks that are going in the top 30 of most mocks.
