Well, Walmart did it

Oh, I didn’t mean nothin’ by it… We was all just procrastinatin’ over here.

Was at one of our local WalMart stores Friday morning, in New Orleans proper. There were four or five yellow-vested WalMart employees and two NOPD deputies stationed in the “lobby” area of the store.

You’ll hear a lot of politicians say “we can’t enforce a mask mandate” and thus beg off making the hard decisions. New Orleans mayor Latoya Cantrell isn’t perfect, but she’s right on the money regarding public enforcement of the mask mandate. No one’s getting ticketed or arrested for showing up somewhere in New Orleans without a mask. But people will get arrested for trespassing after making a scene in front of a store that won’t admit their unmasked self.

The list of retailers where masks are required is growing quickly.

It now includes Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Kohl’s, CVS, Kroger, Walgreen’s, Costco and a lot of the regional supermarkets. Those are just from a quick scan of one article. I’m sure there are many more.

It will be increasingly hard to boycott one of the retailers and still be able to find what you need in person if you choose not to wear a mask.

Good.

Although I am somewhat curious about what societal conditions would need to be met before such mask mandates are sunset. Too early to focus all that much mental energy on it right now, of course.

Fresh Market was one of the first stores I can think of in Little Rock that put up signs saying masks were required and that was back in April. I don’t know about the rest of the country, but Fresh Market is a bit upscale for this neck of the woods. Mask wearing is a mixed bag around here. On some days I see almost everyone wearing one but on others I feel like I’m in the minority.

Oh, another Arky. Hi @Acerbic.

I hear they worn all over in S. Ark.
Good thing. I’m very worried about having to go my clinic in Texarkana. Texas is really in a bad way.

To the protesters:

Oh, go constitutional your precious rights someplace else!

Go hide in the woods and eat nuts and berries.

Shopping at WallyWorld certainly isn’t a “right,” for GAWD’s sake. The sad part about your silly exercise of your rights will probably get you COVID. The hospitals are packed, and the health care workers are doing the impossible caring for truly sick people. They will help you as much as they can, but you may end up in a corridor, alone, left to die.

End rant.

@Beckdawrek

Nah, he’s too busy hawking GOYA products from the Oval Office.

I think the only reason he wore a mask inside Walter Reed Medical Center is that the uniforms would not let him inside without one.

Masks have been required in Hawaii’s Walmarts for months now. Didn’t know they were not required nationally until now, but good on them.

My wife and I visited our local WM this morning. Only saw one person not wearing a mask properly and he was arguing with a checker that refused to check him out till he properly wore his mask. A manager was also there supporting the checker. The guy left without his items. He also had what appeared to be his son with him, the boy appeared to be embarrassed by what happened.

Why are people arguing about this?
I can’t believe it.
These people are begging for everything to shut down again.
Will we ever see the end of this?

Walmart was never shut down because people need food.

I"m not about to enter a Walmart since all I have is those porous cloth things, not a real N95 mask that can actually block the virus. But I don’t see what the big deal is with switching to pickup like I did at the start of the pandemic. If Walmart doesn’t want you in their store, make them do the shopping for you…

I realize Walmart is essential. As are grocery stores and pharmacies.
But if we don’t stem the progress of this pandemic, in the ‘worst case’ scenario there will be no employees or customers. And social distancing will not be a problem.

I’m just guessing and maybe this is stereotyping, but my guess is that some people who refuse to wear masks are not big fans of online stuff like shopping online.

Well, yeah, but they are probably fans of eating and they are approaching the need to make a choice.

At least if they do pick-up, no one will see their shame as they capitulate to the CCP, or whatever the fuck their objection is. But more realistically, they will send their wives.

Or send the poor embarrassed son in, regardless of how young (or not) he is.
