Well ****.

My body has a strange relationship to caffeine- as of last night and early this morning I may have found a pattern. It seems that if I drink Coke (or choke down some coffee) when I’m tired, the caffeine does diddly squat for me. If I drink it while awake and alert, it gives me insomnia till it’s technically morning, which of course would be the day I have early classes.

Or maybe the universe just hates me and it does whatever inconveniences me the most.

You and me both.

Same thing happens to me. There are times when a nice, warm mug of strong coffee just sends me to sleep, times when it just about makes me vibrate out of my chair, and times when it is just a pleasant buzz.

Does it sometimes make you anxious? That’s a fun caffeine effect I sometimes get, that you didn’t mention.

Never makes me anxious. Makes me energetic and talkative and prone to obsessive behavior, but not anxious.

The caffeine, it does nothing!

I had one of those pre-mixed Rockstars with vodka once. I went to sleep an hour later. Buzzkill.

It does to me sometimes.

That’s actually a great observation. I think it does nothing to curb my grogginess, but definitely extends my wakefulness. This became more of an issue once I hit my 30s.

Plus, I get terrible caffeine headaches when I try to reduce my intake too slowly or stop cold turkey. I’ve just accepted it’s a part of my life at this point.

Joy. I didn’t drink any Coke last night, went to bed early, got about ten hours of sleep, and if it’s possible I’m even more exhuasted than yesterday.

My rule is no caffeine after 2 pm or I won’t get to sleep for hours. I only break this rule if I am on a road trip and need to stay alert. Then I have to drink alcohol (poor me) to counter the effect. Caffeine affects me a lot.
