Welp, I'm-a be a daddy!

Congratulations!
The only name advice I have is this: pick something that’s not too common (my oldest spent her entire public school career as “firstname/lastinitial” because her first name was so common that she was never in a class without at least one other one. OTOH, you probably want to avoid a name so ‘off the beaten track’ that it will get the kid pounded on a daily basis. . .although my hubby has such a name, and he did, indeed, get pounded frequently, yet at almost-50, he seems to have turned out just fine.

No need to hijack this thread since it is focused on the really important stuff, but if it makes sense, you should start a thread about this - it sounds interesting…

Ah, y’know. It’s probably not going to be nearly as awesome as it might sound. It’s a just that a friend of a friend needs some rhythm section help with a recording he’s doing in Nashville, and I’ll probably be doing some bass/rhythm guitar work for him. It’s not like I’m enough of a stud that my number is on some producer’s speed-dial.

I’m just doing it to see if it leads anywhere (and of course, I like the guy, so I’m happy to help.)

Hey - it’s all good. Enjoy it and if it gets interesting, let us know…

Now, back to impending baby talk…have you priced out the toy guitars yet? ;)

Speaking as a new daddy myself: Make sure you stock up on sleep. And enjoy the sleep while you can. For awhile after having the kid, you’ll be lucky if you get 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Congratulations on the mini-Ogre. I hope the Ogress has a placid and uneventful low-risk pregnancy.

Congratulations! I hope everything goes as planned - but it won’t because that’s what kids are good at and that’s what makes it fun.

Two things, Ogre:

  1. No matter how exhausted you have ever been during any period of your life up to now, you’re going to be even more exhausted than that. For years to come. And there’ll be countless moments of parental frustration, just to add to the fun.

  2. It’ll be worth it beyond measure. No one could have told me, in any way that made sense, how much joy would attach to every little bit of the kidlet’s personality coming into evidence, or to every little advance in his capability and understanding and expression. But there’s nothing like it.

Fiona!

Hmmm…I already have a close friend whose daughter is named Fiona. Might have to ixnay the Ionafay.

Congrats, Ogre, a lucky kid to have a Dad with so much good knowledge to give him.

Emerson Ellerby ___ sounds good; then, there’s Hezikiah, Hez for short. Maybe too much, but, Hez sure is a great name for a future guitarist.

Congratulations!

The view from 9 months is awesome. The first couple of months, well you know (intellectually,) that you’re happy about the whole thing. You’re just to bone-tired to feel it.

I’ve heard that some people have given birth to fabulous creatures that sleep through the night within a few weeks. Here’s hopin’ you guys are incubating one of those mythical beasts.
