Wendie Jo Sperber, 1962 - 2005

Put me on the Wendy Jo fan list – she was actually the funniest thing in 1942 as well – and I originally dismissed Bosom Buddies, but the ads with Hanks and Scolari drew me in, Wendy and Tom Kept me there.

Was that the sequel to 1941?

Spouse: Richard Velasquez (1983 - 1994) (divorced)
Two children:
Son, Preston, born 1986.
Daughter, Pearl, born 1990.

According to the imdb entry she was born September 15, 1958, which would make her 47.

Damnit, cancer seems to take a lot of funny, talented women too young.

I cut-and-pasted her AP obit and got her birth year from imbd last night; they hurriedly updated and corrected her birth year this morning when they added her death.

I saw a photo of her just a few months ago at some benefit or premiere, and she looked lovely and healthy . . .

Did anyone see her in the underrated Moving Violations?

There’s a scene where she asks medical advice from Fred Willard, an auto mechanic with the nickname “Doc” (she thinks he’s a doctor). He thinks she’s talking about her car, she thinks his answers refer to her medical problem. He tells her, “Drain out all the water, take in plenty of oil, grease up that back end, get out on the highway and go at full speed for about ten miles. See how it feels.”

It cuts to her on the highway in sweats, with a bottle of vegetable oil.

wow! - she was one of my favorites. and just a few months younger than me. (btw - I’m going for my mammo next week)

i forgot to add - one of my favorite **Bosom Buddies ** bit was in the last(?) season. The gang held a talent show and Wendy Jo (or rather Amy) sang Sondheim’s "The Boy From…" which I happen to perform quite well myself IMNSHO.

You know this thread kind of makes me bold enough to say she was under-rated by her Industry. This, here on other Boards, IRL, there is almost what I would call an* outpouring* … Her work and distinctive style made an Impression and yet there were only 5 movies in the past 10 years none of them major releases … Too much Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, Whose the Boss and Married With Children work and not enough with her as the 2nd or 3rd female lead in a big release IMO. Maybe she was “too herself” to be used – she couldn’t fit into anything – but it is unbelievable, to me, that there was nothing for her.

I am sure she was** happy** to work steadily and her illness probably plays in some here – I still am going to put an underappreciated/underused tag on her career

:smack: :smack:

I’ve been having a bad run the last few weeks. Actually it would be 1941 – ignore the fuzzy brained guy in the corner, so often he doesn’t seem to know what he’s saying anymore. (It must be age, but I’ve been calling all manner of things by the wrong name and not even realizing I’ve said something wrong ex: pick up the door, meaning pick up the plate. Calling people by someone else’s name seems to be in an upswing too.)
