It would certainly raise the average IQ of both states.
Oh, come on! I say, you’re doin’ fine, O-K-L . . . O-C-L . . . whatever.
She was also credibly accused of plagiarizing Florence King, a conservative humorist who made William F. Buckley look like Jimmy Carter.

Well, whaddaya want? That’s Texans for ya. Even the best of them, the finest public intellectuals, are crude, violent, alcoholic roughnecks. And the men are even worse.
Yes, or it could have been a case of sloppy attribution. As a full reading of the material at your link reveals.
However, my sympathy for Florence King–if she really is a “conservative humorist” is limited right now. Because it’s primary season. Ted Nugent’s pal Greg Abbott pretty much has the Republican nomination for Governor sewn up. But it’s impossible to watch local news–because of the ads for Republican hopefuls for less illustrious offices. Like Lite Gov & Attorney General.
They are falling all over themselves proclaiming their Conservative credentials, speaking scornfully of Obama (never “President Obama”) & fellating Ted Cruz. Like all Texas cities, Houston is a spot of blue. But there are some Republicans here–especially out in the 'burbs. I don’t know how they will make up their little racist, xenophobic minds, with such an array of geeks.
“Was” not “is”. She died in 2007. And yes she was both, though misanthrope was a more accurate term.
If you think she’s not a humorist, I invite you to read Southern Ladies and Gentlemen(or maybe it was the other way around).
I also have to admit I find this insistence that Ivins was not guilty of plagiarism but was merely guilty of “sloppy attribution” when didn’t attribute comments that she copied from King to anyone but herself and, to her credit, admits that she should have attributed them to King.
Just so people don’t have to take my or Bridget’s word for it, but can make up their own minds.
I’ll let people compare the quotes that King was upset about and felt constituted plagiarism.

Talent borrows, genius steals.
Well I for one now refuse to vote for Ivins for governor.
Just got a fundaising letter for Davis (I’m on a bunch of Dem direct-mail lists), prominently featuring the filibuster, but haven’t cut her a check.
I’ve already contributed to Wendy Davis, although her recent advocacy of Open Carry has given me pause.
And I don’t give a fuck if Molly Ivins stole from a Conservative. On the whole, I still miss Molly. And the topic has nothing to do with Wendy Davis. Or Greg Abbott…
That’s an interesting statement.
Would you have been angrier if she stole from a liberal?
Also, if it’s okay to steal from conservatives what else can be done to them?
Can we beat them up? Kidnap them? Murder them?
Take the Molly Ivins debate to another thread, please.
That’s so two hours ago. Now we are on to permissible behavior in relation to conservatives. Myself, I draw the line at wedgies. Not a strict rule. More of a guideline.
I’m more radical. Swirlies are appropriate.
Wendy Davis is a pretty hard right candidate. She’s even said now that she supports restrictions on abortion after 20 weeks.
She isn’t “hard right” for Texas. Farther to the right than I would prefer, but more liberal than any of the Republican hopefuls playing “More Conservative Than Thou” on political ads this primary season…
Texas cities tend Democratic–so the Abbott/Nugent show only played Denton & Wichita Falls. Nugent apparently minded his language at the events. And Abbott played ignorant of his pal’s past behavior & opinions…
Of course, Wendy Davis has mostly been talking about statewide issues. But the Republicans don’t want anybody to stop fearing DC.
Ted Nugent offers a warning example. Sure, you can worry about what happens to people who take drugs, but look what happens when you don’t!
Does that mean she can win?
No, it just means that even if she wins, he’s still right.
