OK, I’ve sat on this too long. I can’t contain it any longer! (Not that it was a secret or anything.)
Friday night, after taking me out to dinner for my birthday, my (live-in) boyfriend Jeremy and I sat down by the fountains outside Place des Arts. He pulled a little box out from his pocket. Inside was a simple gold ring. He placed it on my left ring finger, and, in the sweetest and most earnest of voices, asked, “Will you marry me?”
I said yes. Of course, I said yes. How could I not?
We’re two very different people, yet we share so much, including a common spirituality. Each of us has come out of his own despair to find a new freedom and a new happiness. Because of this, we share more than love. I am his, completely his, alpha to omega, forever and ever. And he is mine.
Now we’re going to make it official, before our families, before our friends, and before God. We’re getting married.
Just thought I’d share my happy news.
No date yet. I personally want to wait until we move to a bigger place, so that we’ll have room for all of the toasters and Mixmasters and rice makers and such y’all are gonna be givin’ us!

Congratulations! As a 22-year veteran of marriage, I’m always thrilled to see couples just starting on the journey. I wish you a long and happy life together.
