Last month jeremy evil and I decided to tie the knot. Legally.
Since the last time I mentioned the wedding here, I’ve done a 180 and don’t want a big to-do anymore. We’re keeping it relatively small - about 30 family and friends - and the big day will be November 20th, followed by a nice dinner at a restaurant here in town. The service itself is being held in a non-denominational chapel owned by Concordia University, and will be performed by a female minister of the United Church. We met with her earlier this week and discussed the reasons why we want to do this, what marriage means to us, and the legal obligations that come with being married.
We bought new suits and the rings - gorgeous white gold bands - last week. Most of the invitations are sent, and today we booked the restaurant. My parents generously offered to pay for the dinner, which was really great of them. Jer is particularly happy because some of his friends from the U.S. will be flying up for the occasion.
Then, in December, we’re going on a cruise from New Orleans to Mexico and back. I’ve never been on a cruise before, but from what I hear, it’s non-stop food, so I’ve gone back on the low-carb thing. I have to get rid of the… padding I put on over the summer.
We’re also honoured to have Curious Canuck and clayton_e as our groomsmen, as they’ve been good friends to us.
Anyway, I wanted to share this here. My life has changed so dramatically for the best since I got sober two years ago, on November 4, 2002. I found a lot of much-needed support here on the SDMB, and every enouraging message you posted and email you sent helped me through those first few shaky months. I suppose this is testimony to the good things that can happen to you when you make a change in your life, decide to live again, and strive for happiness.
Congrats to the both of you! Believe it or not I was thinking about you all just the other day, wondering why we hadn’t heard more about the wedding plans.
No big bash, huh? Guess that money will go into the cruise. I’ve always heard about cruise food too.
Sounds like the dinner will be something of a Dopefest! Pictures! We want pictures!
Now you can start worrying about joint bank accounts and juggling mortgage and car payments together and who’s going to take la poubelle out. You’ve been co-opted by The System, I tell you!
Haven’t we been planning this wedding for the last year? I distinctly remember threads on your appointment with the wedding planner, the bridal registry, the alcohol question, requests for reception songs, etc. In fact, now that I think about it, I thought you were planning on getting married in September. Did I miss something?
And a few days in advance, happy birthday.
I guess my invitation got lost in the mail or somethin’…
Well, yeah, I could – if I got a chance to see you tie the knot.
But you know what’s best for you – and I’m so glad for you. May your life together be filled with all good things, and only enough sadness to give savor to the sweetness!
