Very trying.
Look for the two announcements threads in MPSIMS. They are still active and approved.
xash, thank you for that excellent summary.
I’m quite sure I’ve seen posters get stern warnings for something a lot less provocative than what Dex said.
Oh, but I see. “Legitimate poster.” That gives you a lot of wiggle room. Define someone as not a “legitimate poster” and you can ban, suspend, give stern warnings, whatever. Sort of like “enemy combatant.” Nice.
Still wondering why people are leaving?
::sigh::
I only meant someone who is posting on this Board in good faith. If the person were a newbie who comes on here with 5-20 posts, some of which are combative, controversial, then they posted something like that, yeah–they’d get warned.
I’m sorry that every word a mod/Admin posts here has to be examined under a magnifying glass to see if there’s some hidden meaning. Part of the problem is not being able to talk face to face, with you hearing what I’m saying, with all the nuances, tone, inflection, emphasis.
Did you, you personally, really think Dex was suggesting going over to another Board to to that? I doubt it.
A bigger part of the problem is some of you are doing dumb shit, like this:
Did you ever consider that maybe you were in the wrong line, Sam, if this weak crap is your best response to a problem communicating in a written medium. “Uh, you’d really LIKE what I was telling you if you could hear my voice, but the big bad Internet wouldn’t let me speak, so my meaning got all confused!! Wahh!!”
Did you have any problem figuring out my tone there? Didn’t think so.
I apologize for my intemperate suggestion earlier in this thread. It was an expression of frustration at all the shit I’ve had dumped on me over the years, and not being able to respond; and then to find outrage over the suggestion that personal insults not be part of criticisms of mod activities. I confess, I was wishing for some sort of irony/justice: some of those who have been so viciously abusive to moderators are themselves becoming moderators, and I hope that they get their own medicine shoved down their throats.
I certainly was not suggesting that I (or anyone) would actually do such a thing – I don’t have enough time to spend here, I certainly am not going to waste time on other boards. As I say, it was an outburst of frustration on my part, and I regret it.
Dex, can you explain to me why the mods should be protected from personal insults when no other posters are? Especially when several of them insist upon being as condescending, dismissive, and rude as possible in their moderating - with no consequences?
You know, I never have a problem figuring out your tone. Funny about that. Thanks for your input.
Regards,
samclem
There seems to be a small contingent who do/did nothing BUT follow a couple mods/admins around and bitch and complain and piss and moan about everything those mods/admins did or did not do.
The contributed nothing but bile. Nothing.
And if they were banned then they would be seen as martyrs. So what was the solution? Hellifino. But I think this should have been put into place a while ago.
Who the hell would want to be a mod if that’s how they were constantly treated?
I have had exactly one post where I disagreed with the mod’s decision (yeah I’m sure everyone took note that Surb disagreed :)). I registered my opinion and while it did not go the way I felt it should, I certainly did not abuse anyone because a mod did something I didn’t like.
I have NEVER seen a mod abuse a poster the way some of the posters have abused the mods.
And I have seen many posters take something innocuous and either really be offended or disingenously call it snark and be offended. There have been many posts where posters have gone way over the edge to find snark in something that just wasn’t there.
I don’t think the mods show anywhere near the amount of disrespect, mean-spirited criticism, and downright hate that they have been shown.
Lib I’ve always enjoyed your presence here at the SDMB. Without you around I’ll suffer a significant loss of enjoyment using these boards.
But you know what ?
I’m not really too concerned.
You’ve pulled this eloquent drama queen self banishment bullshit before at least once.
IIRC you are the only guy whose requested to be banned.
You are so fucking addicted, I’ll guarantee you’ll be back.
The cheapest bottle of wine tastes pretty good if you’ve been in Saudi Arabia for three months.
I’ll be around when you get back.
Give my regards to Edna.
Without any four letter words, even. Well, I suppose bullshit is a bit blue but, outside of a small community of youngsters with very mixed up sensibilities, decided non-sexual.
Bravo, sir! <golf clap>
I’d agree with you if I hadn’t been over to the “new town.” It’s a pretty good facsimile of what this one used to be. The obvious problem with starting anew is getting membership to the point where it will sustain itself, and it looks to me like the new place has critical mass.
The problem with the new town is that its only 1 minutes drive away. Don’t be fooled the number of people hanging out there. They are only there because the town allows the bars to stay open all night long. But they drive back here and live here for the superior cultural amenities and beautiful tree lined streets.
Except Liberal who’ll begin to wonder why he ever declared he won’t come back to this town when everyone else keeps taking off in the early morning hours.
And the pie. Don’t forget the pie.
Honestly, I think a lot of people are still just keeping one eye on this place to satisfy their general trainwreck curiosity. But you could be right.
Or to help create the trainwreck.
Not that I would ever question anyones motives …
How’s the new house Liberal?
I’m pretty sure we don’t need this dredged up again. But feel free to ask Liberal at his new home.
