We only just started listening to this comic (thank you, iTunes!) and find we really like his style and his wit. We tried to go see him at Mohegan Sun this past weekend but we found out too late and couldn’t get tickets.
I just found out we got tickets for June 26! Woohoo!
Anybody else like him? This is my first time seeing a live comic (I’ve had a lot of firsts lately, it seems.) Any Albany Dopers know what the Palace Theatre is like?
Lewis Black is incredibly funny. For a dumpy middle-aged guy, he adds a lot of physical punctuation to his jokes that makes them even funnier.
I’ve seen his televised stand-up act more times than I can count, and I was really excited when he came to my university for a night. I had expected a brief 30-minute bit, especially after the amateur comedy troupes had been putting the audience to sleep for an hour and a half, but he himself went for a straight 90 minutes, much of it new material. Given the highly improvised venue (it wasn’t even at any of the university’s theaters, just a cheap stage in the ballroom) and the cheap ticket price, I think highly of him giving us such a great performance.
You lucky bastards. I’ve been enjoying him on The Daily Show for years, and yesterday I was given his book, which is less angry but a better autobiography than I expected. I did see him live once, about four years ago, and I’d like to do that again.
I saw at the student center of the University of Tennessee a couple of years ago. The place was so packed that it was SRO in the auditorium he performed in AND the overflow room (in which I sat) where we saw it live…on a big screen. Oh, and he was absolutely friggin’ hilarious. Margaret Cho came a few weeks later and it just didn’t match up. Loved both shows, though. You’ll really enjoy it.
I’ve seen him twice, I think. Funny, funny man. He manages to pull off being vein-poppingly angry and cross-eyed goofy at the same time. And most of his humor is reasonably smart.
I saw The Tragically Hip there about 5 years ago and it was a little run-down, but still had a lot of old-timey charm. The inside (the lobby, especially) had a “grandness” about it, for lack of a better word. You could still imagine what it must have been like 50 years ago. I haven’t been there since the renovations, though. So hopefully, someone else can give you a better description. I hope that eyesore of a marquee isn’t indicative of what they’ve done on the inside.
I love his style of comedy - he’s just so angry, it’s fantastic! I have one of his CDs (White Album), and he has a rant about New England weather (and weather in general) that is great.
