We're in trouble now: cats are apparently evolving FAST!

My first reaction to this video was “holy shit!” but then the slow motion part started and my reaction changed to

“HOOOOOLLLLLLYYYYYYYY SSSSSSHHHHHIIIIIIIIITTTTTT!!!”

I figure the only plausible explanations are that either cats are evolving faster than we knew, or we’ve already been invaded by space aliens!

Two ideas:

  1. It’s being played backwards. The cat was placed in a bipedal position and left there to settle, and the other cat backed off.
  2. “Evo cat” is actually being pulled up by strings or something that have been edited out.

Um, what? The cat got up on two legs for a few seconds. So what.

I thought this was going to be about those polydactyl cats. CATS WITH THUMBS, now that is a pretty troubling development for mankind.

Think that’s bad…how bout cats with thumbs!

My cat used to do that all the time when my dog was a puppy. They played together incessantly- sometimes the dog and the cat would hit that ninja pose simultaneously, then resume grappling and chasing each other. Alas, the dog grew up and no longer indulged the kitty’s desire to play.

One of my cats often stands up like that to look around, especially to look out the window. I’ve seen her take a half-step to adjust her position without putting her front paws down. It’s rather cute.

The other cat… definitely not evolved enough. Cute, but stupid.

  1. You have no idea how cats actually move and are talking out of your ass.

My dog can stand on his hind legs and remain there for up to 30 seconds if he thinks you have food. He can even walk forward. My old cat used to be able to do the same. Notice that the “Standing up” portion of the video goes for a couple of seconds at best? It’s just a cat doing what cats do - trying to make itself look bigger to a potential threat. There’s no trickery or video fakery involved at all.

Cat walking on back two legs? That’s nothing!

That is hillarious, gaffa. And more impressive.

I just love how the hind leg cat looked like an aggressive bipedal stance. It’s not just the hind legs, but that, for a split second, it looks almost human.

I’m sure there some much smarter Doper who can tell me a lot of reasons it doesn’t actually look like human posture, but that’s what I saw at first. Like a lanky human in a hoody, who did not look happy.

No! It’s almost as if that was the entire point of the video…
