One of my favorite Christmas movies. The ensemble of Humphrey Bogart, Aldo Ray, and the very dry Peter Ustinov is brilliant.
Yes, one of my favorites as well. I even have a copy - somewhere.
I love this movie! In addition to the wonderful lead actors, Basil Rathbone is memorable as a despicable fellow who gets what he deserves.
First time I saw this. Never knew of its existence. Brilliant! Big fan of Bogart.
Great movie! Saw it for the first time when I was pretty young. Teenager maybe? Enjoyed it again last night!
I actually had thought about posting it when they opened the Forgotten Christmas specials/movies thread.
I finally found a DVD copy! It will be here before Xmas, one of my favorites.
We watched it for the first time. I don’t know how neither of us had seen it before. It was a hoot!
I remember seeing it back in the 1970s one saturday afternoon as basic filler movie fodder. I loved it [especially the unseen snake, as I love snakes.] I remember being thrilled one month when we first had AMC back in the 90s, and they played it repeatedly that month. It had shown up occasionally until the Sean Penn remake [not a bad movie, but not the one I wanted to watch] kept getting all the airtime for a few years. I DVRd it this time and am planning on transferring it to my computer.
I love the movie - it is just one of the charming little throw away christmas offerings by Studio system Hollywood. I remember discussing it once - apparently the little films they made for holiday release are just out of whack schedule wise for the Oscars, so they gave directors/writers/producers a lot of leeway to make a cute little family movie for the holidays.
I love this film. I remember when the “remake” came out. I was upset that they used the same name. I enjoyed the three featured players. And Rathbone (and his nephew) were so delightfully bad. And the three of them basically watching the drama unfold (literally) below them as they were supposedly fixing the roof. It was almost surreal as they went in and out of the action.
Not giving anything away…do you remember the halos? All of them?
all four!
