God, I hope Bush takes Florida. All of us in my office are on pins and needles right now. I can’t hardly eat, I’m so worried that Gore might get in. I’ve been away from the boards for the last couple of days and haven’t been able to participate. Now’s my chance again. This is for Bush supporters who don’t feel that his election would be the end of minority civil rights. I’m still not sure where that belief came from, but it’s not really important here.
I hate to say it for fear that I’ll be ostracized(sp?) by everyone, and I like everyone I’ve met at SDMB so far. But if I had to support either one of them, I would support Bush. I didn’t get to vote, because they (some official in KY) fucked up my absentee ballot application and I never got one. Pbbbttthh. However, I just feel that Bush is the lesser of the two evils.
Personally I’d like to see Lewis Black, with Dennis Leary as VP. But not so many people would like that as much as I would.
So here is my very “very” “very” small amount of support for Bush.
Add me to the pro-Bush side. I think he’s arrogant, but most leaders ARE arrogant. I’d rather have that then someone who is wishy-washy and flipflops with the results of every new poll. I like most of his ideas, especially when compared to Forrest Gore. There’s a few things I’d like to change, but on the whole I support Bush over Gore.
And it looks like the republicans have retained control of both the house and senate. I don’t expect them to steamroller a lot of legislation through, though, as the majorities are kind of thin. Sounds like we can still expect gridlock. I don’t mind - if we keep them fighting each other, they won’t be fighting John and Marsha Taxpayer.
“Hide your wallets - Congress is in session”. Mark Twain
While I’m pretty conservative, I’m beginning to pull more for Gore than Bush, because it looks like the GOP is retaining control of Congress. I think the Congressional-Executive mis-match has been responsible for a lot of the good things over the last few years, because very few things from either side could get the support necessary to become law. I look forward to that continuing.
Just the thought of “President Gore” makes me sick to my stomach!!!
The man thinks our civilization is a sin aganst nature!! He wants to do away with most of what makes the US great for the benefit of snail darters and spotted owls!
And how anybody could vote for someone who lies so easily and fabricates even his own life is beyond me!! And don’t give me that old “All politicans lie” crapola!!! Most politicians at least tell the truth about what lullaby their mothers sang to them!! And, don’t forget, on the afternoon of Clinton’s impeachment, Gore declared him to be one of our greated presidents ever!!! YUK!!!
Bush has a great record in Texas dealing with some of the same problems that the nation faces. And while Gore was flunking out of divinity school and law school at Vanderbilt Bush was getting his MBA at Harvard!!! So, who’s the dumb one?? How many classes do you have to fail (if you’re a Democrat) in order to be labeled “dumb”??
Sorry for the long post/rant but I’m going nuts waiting, too!!
Coming from me, that’s not an insult, by the way. I completely agree with you. I just talked to one of my coworkers who voted for Gore. Turns out he voted for him because of false information he received in a packet in the mail. He regrets the vote, now. I hate to think that there are a lot more like him. If somebody votes a certain way because they honestly believe in what their candidate stands for, then I respect their vote. It’s when people vote out of ignorance that I get upset.
WOW!! Best compliment I’ve ever been paid!! To be mistaken for the Great One!! :SWOON:
Seriously, having to wait 'til tomorrow is starting to get to me. What are they doing, anyway, counting the ballots by hand??? Ohio uses a similar punch card system but I think they use a computerized reader to do the tally. Isn’t this 1950’s computer technology?? Doesn’t somebody still have a working reader down there?? Maybe they can borrow Ohio’s…

ps. Thanks, guys!! (generic term for friends, no sexism intended)
Gore’s an activist and a demagogue. In addition to his questionable relationship to the truth, he could do a lot of damage in 4 years.
And somehow I just don’t think that after 4 years of Bush we’re going to have women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen and a revival of the Jim Crow laws. I used to be a Democrat, but that constant fear-mongering is just too much. Jesus, folks, we’re all Americans here.
Let’s get those military absentee votes in from abroad!
So, why has this thread remained open while so many other election-oriented threads have been closed? Is it because Uncle Beer is a Republican, or is it because Bush is MUNDANE and POINTLESS, so this is the right forum for his supporters?
I’m pro-Bush (but more anti-Gore.) I’m part of what you might call “the libertarian wing of the Republican party.”
I was watching the returns with a bunch of other people in my dorm in a large common TV room, between 12-30 people at times. There was a very vocal democratic crowd that was cheering on Gore (he was doing well early.) But they were being really stupid, cheering for when he won Washington, D.C. (85% democrat), and other small solid Democrat states. his pissed me off, and I was transformed into a malicious Republican go-bot. It was now “us” versus “them.” So then I started cheering when we won North and South Dakota, and making fake trash talk (Booyah! We got both! Dakota sweep for Bush!) Early exit polls had given Florida to Gore. I was depressed about this, and the local Dems were exultant. But then CNN announced that Florida was in fact NOT Gore’s, and that it was still up for grabs. Then, in the same little anouncement, or shortly after, they said Bush won Missouri AND Tennesee, Gore’s home state. That shut them the f*ck up. I was like “Uhn! <grab crotch> In yo’ face!” They were so deflated. It was great. I’m sure I made an enemy or two last night, but it was worth it.
When any of you (perish the thought) come down with Muscular Dystrophy or Parkinson’s Disease or Alzheimer’s, think back to abolishment of stem cell research.
If a triple threat Republican house, senate and oval office manage to overturn Roe v Wade, pray to your Lord that your daughters don’t end up bleeding to death in some back alley.
This is not sour grapes, merely concern for the possible reversal of decades of progress in the name of sanctimonious politics.
