I’m not claiming your take is impossible, but it just seems unlikely to me. It was too early, I think, for that vote to work as a diversionary tactic.
It is possible that Wanderers is a werewolf, and that he claimed to be Mason as a last-ditch attempt to escape the scaffold, figuring that at the very least, he could out a Mason and maybe get an extra day of life if he convinced enough people that the other guy was lying. However, no one has contradicted him, which means that 1) he’s really a Mason, 2) none of the real Masons have posted since he made that claim, or 3) we’ve got the dumbest Masonic lodge in recorded history.
Not countering a false Mason claim at this stage of the game would be inexcusably stupid. Worst case scenario is that the werewolf convinces us that the real Mason is lying and we lynch him instead. That would be bad, but it would also be proof that the fake Mason is a werewolf, and he gets the rope the very next day. End result, in the absolute worst case scenario, by the end of day three, the werewolves are down two wolves, and the village is down three townspeople. Given our numerical advantage, that’s an exchange rate we can easily ride to victory.
He outed himself as a Mason. I’m not going to vote against a Mason, and I threw my vote in with his figuring that (like he said) - he knows two other Masons - so voting with him I have a better chance of voting for a werewolf than an innocent townie. Even if my chances are only marginally improved.
But then he withdrew his “defensive vote”. So now what?
Assuming Wanderer is actually a Mason, I think you’ve got that backwards. If a werewolf claims s/he is a mason, and accuses Wanderer of being a fake mason (i.e. werewolf), then we lynch Wanderer, the wolves reap another villager, then that fake mason gets strung up.
Villagers: - 2
Wolves: - 3 (including current deficit)
I think for the villagers, the best thing that could happen would be if a wolf in mason’s clothing spouted up.
So do you believe him 100%? Will you continue to vote the way he does?
I think that the chances he are lying are low enough for me to unvote him, but he’s still not squeaky clean in my book. If we are to believe Wanderers, then Ogre is not a mason (which can be countered by the remaining masons if he is) and is subject to suspicion.
Is such an early role claim unusual? Would it have been better for Wanderers to have taken one for the team in order to shed some light on voting patterns? After all, it would be almost impossible for us to go through the game without lynching an innocent townie. Personally, I have no problems sacrificing myself if it leads to the discovery and lynching of a werewolf. Alive or dead, all members of the winning team get to claim victory.
vanilla townie, no big loss
seer - huge loss
angel - big loss
mason - moderate loss
When we get down to fewer players, the more confirmed innocents (yes I know I’m not confirmed) the better.
If Wanderers keeps quiet and gets lynched, then we find out he was a Mason, and we have this conversation without his input. Since he’s already piped up and says, “I’m a Mason - don’t lynch me!,” we now have to decide whether we believe him or not. We have the same conversation, but there also exists the opportunity to smoke out false claims (including, if we think he’s lying, his own) before the lynching. If he sucks it up and stays quiet, we learn less about the town than we’re going to learn from this discussion.
Ok… I’m with you fellas unvote One and Only Wanderers
A warning to the other wolves to stay silent?
Vote Winston Smith
Well, I did believe him, but after a few hours of reflection, I guess I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a no-win situation to go in and confirm or deny his assertion. Either way, you’d have to out yourself - whether in his defense or to indict him, and then your neck is in the noose the next day, or you get torn to shreds by a pack of bloodthirsty monsters.
Jebus save us.
Oh well, if we can book our places early for the next round, then [del]put me on Ground Zero for a Day One lynching[/del] sign me up!
You’re right, I got the numbers reversed. But I agree with your conclusion.
Don’t forget the guardian angel. Right now, whoever is the angel has no way of knowing who is and is not a werewolf. If someone is proven to be a Mason, then he’s pretty much automatically guaranteed to be protected by the guardian angel, unless the angel is all selfish and protects themselves instead, just in case the pack goes after them.
Actually, that brings up another point in Wanderer’s defence. If a werewolf is going to claim a false role, they’re much better off claiming the seer or the guardian angel, as those two roles aren’t subject to verification from other townspeople.
Just to clarify, I should count as a passer-by - I never leave town for good, but I’m not in on this. Definitely can’t confirm or deny wanderer’s Mason claim, though I’m fascinated by the whole situation, and only just restraining myself from offering real strategy hints as opposed to vague observations, in accordance with Revenant’s courteous request.
Since I’m at work for a few more hours and can’t devote the proper amount of time to analyzing this thread, could someone put up a current vote count?
I think I’m going to need to back to the beginning and rethink things, and I need to know who to start out with preconceived notions against.
Thanks,
SP

It’s wide open again. By the way, i’ve still got my running list of whose interested in being subbed in/ playing in another round, though i’d prefer someone else to run it should there be one. As much fun as it is to read all this and be in the know (and I assure you, it’s very fun) I like to play this, too. But yeah, if you’re interested, declare and you’ll get first dibs on another go round.
I’m up for another round.
im up 4 it too
I’ll play again.Whats the max for players?
(buys a home in Doperville, the site of Werewolf Game thread #2)
Technically there is no limit. It’s a matter of ratios, rather than strict numbers, and there are plenty of other flavour roles to add in. What’s stopping me from saying “everyone in” though is that such a game would take a very long time. Depending on how many people are interested I may have to add in a third faction, so the kill count is up. Gets a bit confusing, but not that bad. The only four faction game I played fizzled because everyone got completely confused about it.
No finger pointing, just some stats.
Wanderers has voted for 5 different people.
Richard Parker 4
Ogre 4
Winston Smith 4
7 people have voted for 3 people.
Top vote getters, unvotes not included.
Wanderers 9
JSexton 8
Miller 8
Mennochio 7
jsgoddess 7
Ogre 3
5 people have 2 votes, and Captain Carrot has 1 vote.
These include both days, all votes, and no unvotes. Votes for people that were replaced are not included.
On preview, I’m definitely interested in playing again as well.
