West Nile mosquito exposure

This site speaks of mosquito control and personal protection measures.

I’m looking for more specifics. IE, in my area (San Jose, CA), which are the likely infected species of mosquitoes and what hours are they most active?

A) I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but…

B) Here’s the website for the Santa Clara County Vector Control District. If you don’t find the answer on their pages ( I haven’t dug around their West Nile page much ), give them a call. That’s what they are there for and I’m sure someone there has the relevant info:

I doubt you’re going to do much better than the CDC. http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/q&a.htm
Why are you asking this? Are you personally worried, or are you preparing a general public safety report?

If it’s the first, West Nile just doesn’t seem like something you need to devote a lot of worry to in San Jose. Last year, there were three human cases (none fatal) in California. Now if you were in Colorado where the number of human cases are in the thousands, I’d be worried.

In San Jose, you should probably just take the normal precautions – wear repellant, and stay indoors at dusk when the critters are biting.
