West Wing 11/27

Nothing really to post about tonight’s ep. Just wanted to point out something I’ve noticed in a couple of recent eps.

You know how they always have extras walking around in the background? At least twice in recent weeks, I noticed where the background action seemed unnatural. In one, a person appeared to be standing there, and began walking towards the camera when the scene began. In another, a couple were walking towards the camera, and then they seemed to slow down for no other reason besides they were getting too close to the foreground.

Just wanted to point that out. Seems to stand out, compared to the overall high quality and attention to production detail. I’ll be watching for more tonight.

Bartlett’s response to the Secretary General–roughly (shouting) “There are big signs everywhere! Your car should be towed!” reminded me of the Jim Carrey movie Liar, Liar. Lawyer Carrey cannot tell a lie of any kind. He gets a call from a client whom he has represented many, many times, who is once more in need of legal assistance. His response (shouting) : “Stop breaking the law, asshole!”. It worked well both times even though it’s an old gimmick–blunt honesty from a person expected to be diplomatic towards a person behaving like a jerk and expecting to be treated as if the rules don’t apply to them.

I liked the episode, and thought the “constructive criticism” between Toby and Will was priceless. “I needed an avalance of Advil,” ranks as one of my favorite lines so far.

I also loved the “screw it, let’s fight” rant of POTUS, and Leo’s smile, not to mention how all the men were griping about all their women badgering them about the female pilot.

My one fear, though, is that Sorkin et al is going to move toward a Josh and Donna romance, after Josh’s looks following the Commander Kuffs chat. That would seriously screw up their relationship and cut down on Amy’s already far too short screen time. Gods I adore Mary-Lousie Parker.

I enjoyed the episode a lot.

I enjoy CJ. She is my hero. I loved the way she set the newsmagazine reporter straight. (Bitching that he was no longer as close to the front as he would have liked.) She has a way of turning things (she did it once before with a reporter who cheesed her off about changing clothes before a press conference). And when the POTUS said to her, “I don’t know why you’re giving in, but, if that’s what you want…” I just knew she had something good up her sleeve.

I thought that the whole thing between Josh, Donna and the Commander was a little to juvenile. Donna didn’t need Josh’s help when she bedded the republican (lawyer?) last season. It just was a little too goofy.

The Star Trek temp was a nice diversion though. And Josh knew way more about ST than I really thought he should.

Just my thoughts.

OK, I think we should list our top ten West Wing episodes in chronological order, then our top ten West Wing guest appearance and compare that to our first list to see what overlap there is.
Next come the main characters. Pick one guy, one girl, and a room of the West Wing and describe a scene where they’re having sex. The press corp can be there to record the event if you wish.
