West Wing 3/13/02

Dangblastit! I knew I shouldn’t have laid down on the couch. I saw CJ was giving a press conference on some important government business, and out of the blue one of the reporters asks her who the designer of her evening dress is. Then the next thing I know “Law and Order” is on. Would someone please tell me what I slept through? I’m so upset with myself. The one television show I make a point of it to watch regularly, and I missed the whole dang thing! I’m oddly intrigued by the fashion angle this week. What’s up with that? Oh, and y’all feel free to talk about the show too. You know, rating it and stuff, like you usually do.

The episode was a repeat, but IIRC CJ was ticked off at the reporter who asked her about her dress. She felt that she was a lightweight.

Then there was some sort of crisis and the reporter made a statement on air that made CJ look stupid, so CJ retaliated by making her look even dumber at a press conference.

There was a dressy dinner going on and CJ was wearing an evening gown. One of the events which occurred was a terrorist act in Israel which killed two Americans. CJ changed out of the gown because she didn’t think it was appropriate to give out that news dressed up. The fashion reporter noticed it and figured CJ’s many change of wardrobes had something to do with her lack of information and said as much in her live report from the White House lawn.

In retaliation, CJ humiliated her in a live press briefing and took away her privileges. A great episode, even if it was a re-run, IMO.

What did CJ actually say to humiliate the reporter? My wife came in and interrupted me while I was watching.

She asked her some pretty nuts and bolts questions about Congressional procedure in front of everyone…how many votes does it take to override a veto, how many to sustain the override, how many members of Congress there were. Bubblehead caught up with her in the hall to call CJ on the humiliation, and CJ set her straight about the wardrobe change, took away her press credentials and (I didn’t get this part) took away her stand up at Pebble Beach and said she could do it from Lafayette. I heard Pebble Beach and thought US Open…what did that have to do with a golf course? Someone clear that up for me?

“Pebble Beach” is the name for a place out front of the White House. It has gravel laid down for the TV equipment.

Effectively, CJ kicked her butt to the curb by not only taking away her press credentials, but her ability to do an on-air report with the White House in the background without the bars of the fence that rings the White House grounds from being in the way.

Thanks, y’all, for filling me in.

We are a year behind on that show, and I love the show, so I look forward to seeing this episode!
