This is our newbie, his name’s Shadow . He’s between two and three years old, is very friendly and likes lots of fuss. His story is that he was one of two kittens but unfortunately the family only wanted to keep the female kitten and when they moved house, they just left him behind.
He was spotted by a teacher who took her class outside for some storytelling and found herself with Shadow asleep on her lap while she told stories to her class of 4yr olds. She didn’t see much of him before the Christmas holidays but afterwards she saw him again and realised he was looking much thinner than before. He was sitting out in the playground in the rain and when she opened the classroom door, he shot straight in, found the nearest radiator and went to sleep.
When her husband turned up to collect him, he’d already got his own chair and blanket, and a host of little admirers. The rescuing couple couldn’t keep him because they have two cats already, plus a couple of rabbits, a ferret and a parrot. So he emailed round at work to see if anyone wanted a cat…my Hungarian friend got hold of the email, sent it to me…and the Ubercat decided that our house was the perfect place for him to live.
'im indoors didn’t raise the slightest objection and so Shadow has moved in…and our existing cat, Ophelia is sulking under the duvet.
Awwww… congratulations! It wasn’t so long ago I got my first kitty cat. It was a joyous day indeed. (Mine is black like Shadow–his name’s Merlin.) Congratulations! Also, Ophelia is beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an all-white cat like that before.
She’s actually not completely white although it doesn’t show up on the photos. When she was born both she and her sister had two black dots between their ears which stayed until she started to grow and now they’ve all but disappeared. If you get close to her and get her in the right light, you can just see a few tiny black bits of fur but you really do have to look extremely closely to see them.
The male cat of the litter she came from was the complete opposite to the two white girls, he was completely solid black. Until he also started growing and just as the girls lost the black dots on their heads, he developed a tiny white tip to his tail!
It’s a reflection from somewhere, jayjay, his eyes are a lovely shade of green. Of course, that’s when they’re open! Just now he’s asleep on the sofa having been fussed to bits this evening. He’s looking like a very blissed out cat, but those eyes are remaining closed!
amen to that.
and bast, as i understand it, makes sure the scales are tipped in your favor when the times comes to be measured against that pesky feather. the dive master and i can both be counted amongst that rarified group. we have a rescued kitty each.
A lot of black kitties look alike to me, and they are all cute! I have this calendar hanging up at work right now, for twelve months of black cats. In many cases only the shape of their ears is different. The cutest one of all, however, is my Zoe, queen of the remote controls.
I saw that calendar at the bookstore just this weekend. Congratulations and kudos, Scarey. Of all the cats whose photos have already been posted here, our own Sal (now almost 16!) is virtually identical to Mindfield’s Dutchess. What good kitties!
I’d love to get a second cat, but we seem to have trouble with the timing (as in, “now really isn’t a great time to introduce a new cat to the house!”) Maybe in the coming months.
In the meantime, here’s a picture of my gorgeous Bree:
