Whaddya mean, it's December in the MMP?!?

Lilly I don’t know if that was a typo, but it’s pretty funny. And I think you are going to be one whose nickname needs capitalization. lilly just looks weird.

Today, I’m packing a tool box to take with me. On Monday I’m starting a project working someone else’s shop.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/40f with a predicted high of 5c/41f and partly cloudy. It was decidedly foggy this morning too. Weather app says “This is the type of night when you are probably going to end up walking into a creepy fucking spider web”. Somehow I doubt it, but I wait to be proved wrong.

Mumper scritches are the best, obviously very powerful medicine! We went to the vet this morning expecting the worst, since Ophelia has deteriorated so much in the last few days. The vet did all the usual checks, and since Ophie hadn’t eaten anything, they were able to draw some blood. She also had an obliging little wee on the way to see the nurse so they were able to use that for some testing as well. The vet called back this afternoon and said that her red cell count is low but not worryingly so, and her white cell count is very high. That, combined with elevated globulin levels, points to an infection. There’s no sign from the urine test that she has kidney issues or a UTI, so they are thinking it’s some other infection.

We are going back this evening for an anti-biotic injection for her, and a course of pills for the next few days, with some eye drops as she’s got a bit of pink-eye too (probably related to her overall run down state). I have an appointment for Monday (to cancel if she’s perked up over the weekend) and will need to go back on Friday so they can repeat the blood tests. So all is good in Ophelia’s little world, or it will be when the anti-bees start to work!

Nice new name, godbod, your time as a student has a limit and you’ll be out of there, and able to pick a job in a place that suits you better. Bide your time, and come in here to vent instead. We’re great listeners.

Moooom it’s a refreshing change to hear someone say they shouldn’t be driving, instead of having someone adamant they should carry on. Shame that it falls to you and FCD to pick up the errands and stuff though :frowning:

Clearly channelling swampy here as we will be mattress shopping too. We had to clean and turn ours after Ophelia’s little incident the other day, but have now found that there’s a busted spring in the mattress so we have to be very careful how we position ourselves on it!

Right…time to get dressed to face the public (again) and head off to the vet with a very snoozy little cat.

Breakfast on this chilly morn was refried beans with some sauteed onion, anaheim peppers and a spritz of cumin, topped with fried eggs and a tort on the side.

We’re having people over for dinner the day after xmas, so now my quest is for decent andouille sausage and, even harder to find, some tasso to make jambalaya. I think I can get passable andouille locally, but tasso? I can buy it from Amazon, but I would have to get 40 ounces, which is more than I will ever use.

If you use Instacart, you can search a specific product. I frequently pick what store to order from based on who has a specific item we want.

Got a specialty butcher or grocery in your area?

Tasso sounds pretty good, really, as long as they don’t get carried away on the cayenne (I’m a spice wimp).

Yeah, there’s a butcher right down the street. I’m going to check with him.

Woke up to 32 degree weather, which is almost cold enough to be illegal here. The morning news critter was going on about not having proper ice scrapers and having to use their blood donor card. Nice virtue signaling there…

Turn those numbers around. 23º Ferret Height here when I got up. It’s up to 26º now. Mi esposa is making a fire.

Mooooom, should your MIL and FIL move to a nursing facility, what will BIL’s housing options be?

lily, I was going to suggest Zuzu, but like lily too.

I second checking InstaCart for options cookie. You may well find a good local butcher while you’re at it.

There’s a little reddish dog who is in the (figurative) doghouse. When I picked up his toys to sweep and vacuum, he kept dragging them back out of the toybox. I put them back a couple of times and he still pulled them out. I finally gave up and put the toybox up where he couldn’t reach it. The little brat!

I need to purtify to go out in public (AKA Aldi) shortly.

Subtle. Real subtle. /s

I haven’t hit up Dollar General in a while, but need to get something cheap/fun for the employee gift exchange. Problem is, it’s not a Secret Santa, as I understand it, so the gift is for … someone. No idea of age, gender, nada.
I think a couple other folks are going the “lottery ticket” route. I may just get a bunch of candy.
Plus I need a buncha other things, so let’s see how much I can get on the cheap before braving the big box stores.

Monkey had some outside time and is now washing the gooshy-food out of his whiskers, so all is right in his black little world.

Onward! Into the afternoon!

I went out and chopped three logs worth of kindling. I’ve got to take my two smaller axes to the hardware store for sharpening.

Mrs. L.A.: ‘Now that you’ve done all of that chopping, do you want to make breakfast?’

Happy Friday! My guest has gone off to her interview, rather nervous but nourished and loved. Dogkin was smitten at first sight (very unusual for her), and DSIL (daughter’s sister-in-law), who doesn’t like dogs, fell in love with her. She IS awfully cute. Her person will be here to collect her in a couple of hours.

Lily is a good name for you, Susan. (Is it one L or two?)

FCM, you and FCD are helping out four generations of family. That’s mind-boggling. Sounds like you and FCD got the in-laws up to Merry Land just in time. I hope you can find a good care facility for your FIL. It sounds like BIL may need one, too.

swampy, have fun mattress shopping. And don’t get carried away when trying them out. I understand salespeople frown at that.

BooFae, glad Ophelia’s got a better diagnosis than expected!

flyboy and taters, what are your roads like? We have snow-covered ice. DSIL was supposed to get a little electric rent-a-car but they gave her a Mustang instead. I’m hoping she gets to the interview and then SeaTac OK. Taters, now way you should have to drive over the pass!

godbod, I taught in a conservative school for many years, so I empathize. When conversing with people like those in your school, I bring up Matthew 22: 37-40, which I have memorized. If you can’t do that in school (by, say, asking, “How does that jibe with Matthew 22: 37-40?”), try distracting yourself by seeing how many words you can make out of your name or something. This too shall pass, but not soon enough, right?

wordy, fingers crossed and good vibes sent for your hubs’ surgery.

Snow and ice when we got home the other day, but it was melted in the morning. Currently, clear and dry. Light snow is forecast for about noon until 13:00 or 14:00.

Mood:

Once again Midnight ran late. Then first the first 30-45 minutes, we got empty bags full of bags, already processed bags that should have gone to the package cars, outbound stuff that got lft behind, and outbound stuff in our bags. Of course when the Preload Manager showed, so did all the actual work. Till the belt overloaded. But only one moe day of it. This week.

Somebody bounced it to the left belt, and not the right belt.

And a tophat shaped shower cap.
Sounds like BiL is still the most competant of the lot, even with his issues. {{{{FairyChats}}}}

Sorry.

Beer is always a good gift.

Morty, please find out where the Missus got the calendar. Hubs needs something like that.

There’s some Christmas music that I like, and some that I don’t like. But I think “Wonderful Christmastime” is one of the worst Christmas songs ever written.

Just be lucky it stayed on the continent. I once had a package get chucked into the wrong bin and it went from Illinois to California with a side trip to Honolulu.

Then there was the mixup that sent a shipment from LA to New Jersey and eventually back to me near San Francisco. That one was a label swap at the shipper’s dock - I received the shipment for someone else in New Jersey. It went back to LA then off to New Jersey in less time than it took for mine to get back from its vacation in New Jersey. One of the packages was full of sand - I thought they took it to the beach.

Hi everyone, sorry for not keeping up, as it’s been a… umm, well a… week. One of those.

Thanks also for the well wishes after my impact with the errant iPhone operator. Doctor visit(s) are scheduled, next one in a few hours. Having trouble turning my head and using my neck/back, so I’m getting all the parts checked out. Not planning any activities with lawyers and such, just making sure I don’t have something beyond just soreness.

I was told the truck was totalled, then it wasn’t, then it was, and now they’re not sure. The body shop folks have all the tools to lift it up, take it apart, and fix it… but are unable to remove the transfer tank or the crane from the truck bed. I guess they’re big and scary or something. So I (and the missus) removed everything we could, then moved the truck to one of those small shops where the owner greets you while wiping his hands on a rag (you know what I mean, right?). He took one look at the big tank and said: “Sure. I’ll have it out in a coupla hours – you can store it in my shop free. We’ll put it in a back corner for you 'till they finish with yours.” I have a new mechanic now.

So the saga continues… the insurance companies are both helpful and nice, but I wish they’d get their stories straight on who pays for what, whether I get a rental car, and whether I should start shopping for a replacement vehicle. It’s amazing how confusing this became, but it’ll get sorted out eventually.

And my little dog is sick. Hardly getting up, won’t eat or drink, and the vets offices are full/busy. For right now I’m prioritizing him, and will take care of the wrecked truck later. Wish me (him) luck.

Hope y’all have a good week. Didn’t mean to bitch, but geez what a week it’s been.

I served up breakfast (scrambled eggs made with 30% cream, and bacon – plus toast and jam for The Missus), and Wifey said ‘A man who can chop wood and cook. I should marry you.’ I told her she should.

She’s going to get her hair cut. I’ll have a shower and start the dishes, and drive the Jeep to the hardware store for the axe sharpening.

:notes::musical_note: :dancer:t3::man_dancing:t2::dancer:t3::man_dancing:t2::notes::musical_note: happy dance on the windswept barren plains of Nebraska for the good kitty news!

Bitch, vent, kvetch away, you deserve to. :crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3::crossed_fingers:t3:Here’s hoping things smooth out a little. Scritches, pats, hugs all around-to your poor, dear truck too.

{ fires up the scritches parade }

I’m so sorry, sweetheart. When they won’t eat/drink that’s usually the end times. Many gentle hugs to you, and all the scritches in all the right spots for poochie.
