What '80's Pop Hit Was This?

Ok, this is gonna bug me… What is the title and artist of:
“Baby, baby the birds sing in grateful chorus, and just like me I’m sure that they
adore us…” (Ok, so these words are a little off…)

And the chorus says:
“And, ever since the day you set my heart in motion, I realized there’s just no getting over you…”

I understand the singer is a one-hit wonder, and this was a #1 song in the 1980’s, I believe.

Baby Baby by Amy Grant.

I woke up, poured some cereal, surfed the Dope a bit, read this thread, and thought “I have no clue” about that one.

I then hopped in the shower, and while I was in there, I realized I was singing Amy Grant’s Baby Baby in my head.

Aaaaand, on preview, asked and answered. Ah well…

BTW, it’s not a romantic love song. I read somewhere that she wrote it for her (at the time) newborn daughter.

Oh, and she’s not a one-hit wonder. Amy Grant had several songs hit the charts off of that album, “Heart In Motion”, and before that, she was a sucessful gospel singer.

I think she’s now a successful Christian singer again, but I’m not sure.

Darn. I’d have thought: Rio by Duran Duran.

A lot of people in the Christian music industry didn’t take well to her divorcing Gary Chapman so she could marry country singer Vince Gill, from what I’ve heard.

They’ve recorded some songs together, I know that, and I think she’s more of a country artist than anything else at this point.

The down side of being a religious artist is that you’re expected to be better at the religion than your fans are, they’re unforgiving if you’re not.

The music video for it was also controversial among christians. Apparently it showed her acting romantic with a guy, and she wasn’t married to the actor. gasp

The other song of hers that I keep hearing is the “every heartbeat shares your name/ loud and clear they stake my claim”. Or at least that’s what it sounds like.

“Every Heartbeat Belongs To You” is that tune. AFAIK, same album.
