AUSTIN (AP) Karen Hughes, spokesman for Governor George W. Bush, has
confirmed today the president-elect has completed his inaugural address
and, in an attempt to reach out and win the support of the 50% of Americans
who voted against him, will sing his speech, with words composed to the
tune of “What a Wonderful World This Will Be” by Sam Cooke. An advance
copy of the initial lyrics revealed the following:
Don’t know much about history
Don’t know much foreign policy
Don’t remember how I got through school
I’m sure I didn’t break the rules
But what’s it matter 'cause my granny says
“Boy, if you want to you can be the prez
And what a wonderful world this will be”
Don’t know much about the women’s vote
Don’t know much about the bill I wrote
Don’t know much about the foreign vets
I’ve never voted for 'em yet
But I do know if your dad tries hard
He can get you in the National Guard
And what a wonderful place that can be
Now I never claimed to be an A student But what’s wrong with C’s?
And maybe by knowing the names of my cabinet I can win their love for me
…
Don’t know much about air pollution
Don’t know much about the constitution
Don’t know much about th’ economy
It never much affected me
But there’s one thing that I know for sure
If the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor
What a wonderful world this will be
Don’t know much about the national debt
I’ve never had to pay one yet
If we need to we can sell the States
To the Japanese at discount rates
But I do know if things get bad
Dick and I can always call my dad
And what a wonderful world this will be.

Ah…Brings back fond memories of a similar ditty done by the Capitol Steps about Reagan way back when! In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was partly plagerized…I mean “borrowed”…from that!
Ahh, I didn’t vote for Bush, am not a Bush supporter, not even a republican, but GOD do I love how he’s gotten everyone’s panties in a bunch.
In the million and one election threads that I have not involved myself in, has anyone stopped to ask, even as a hijack, why–if the vote was so damn close–do people feel one guy was a TOTAL loser and the other was fit to be king? I would think, and lets abandon any partisanship here, that any election this close means two things:
They’re equally assholes/princes/stupid/smart
half the population is whacko and we need to abandon democracy. Clearly it has failed us and all these years of undisputed elections have just been lucky.
I think 1 is more likely, amusing emails aside. Get over it. I didn’t whine this much when they took Cheers off he air, and that was a damn fine show.

Generally speaking, those who delude themselves into a belief that either Mr. Bush or Mr. Gore are greatly superior to (or even appreciably different from) the other are idiots. They have accepted politics as religion.
Me, I think Mr. Bush is ill-equipped to be President. But before I am the target of a snide remark from Freedom, I do not and have not supported Mr. Gore either.
Stoid, I get enough lame shit in my inbox. There’s no debate here. You’ll have at least four years for knee-jerk Bushbashing. What say next time you get a cute little forward like this you post it in MPSIMS or the Pit, m’kay?
Actually I prefer “knickers in a twist” rather than panties in a bunch…
The biggest lessons I have picked up from this whole election event are the following:
Civil voting rights are the number one right given to American citizens.
These rights should not be violated by machines, human error or bureaucratic bumblings.
Efforts to get out the vote must be accompanied by voter education.
Ballots need to be met standards and market-tested before the actual event.
Campaign managers need to recuse themselves from any official position which may have an impact on how an election is organized, run and interpreted.
Drop dead dates need to be realistic.
We need a serious debate about the necessity of keeping the electoral college around.
I can’t comment on electon fraud because we don’t know what is going to happen for the Seminole court case nor do we have enough information on the tripling plus rate for double voting in Duval County. I shutter at the thought that they might be swept under the rug because no one wants to taint the party of the president-in-waiting.
Some people are taking this rather harshly. Especially since their guy won! Just a little tease, folks, no need to get your knickers in a twist, now is there? Methinks some people are feeling just a wee bit too testy for supporters of someone who “won”.

This thread was not forced upon you in any way. I put it here because it’s politcal and the mods have repeatedly moved all political threads here, so I thought I’d save them the trouble.
Given the title and that it was I who posted it, you might have had a good idea what kind of thread it was and avoided it.
Friend Longhair:
Yer welcome!
I anticipate seizing every possible opportunity to mock and deride our new Puppet-elect. You are all perfectly free to ignore me, and if your reactions here are any indication of future reaction, my guess is that it would probably be wise for you to do so. Wouldn’t want anybody having an anuerysm or nuthin’.

There have been a few threads in the pit, or MPSIMS dedicated to the election. Perhaps you might consider asking it be moved to one of those forums where it might be more appropriate.
First off, that’s a pretty good song parody (one of the few I could actually read all the way through without retching). You’re absolutely right; Bush is a colossal dope (I’d say that much is indisputable by now) who doesn’t have a clue as to what he’ll accomplish as president, and hardly anyone in the mainstream media even cares to point this out. Which is why I’m completely turned off to mainstream media right now, but that’s another thread. I’m no Gore supporter by any means, but facts is facts, mmkay?
That said…call me crazy (the whole election’s been crazy; why shouldn’t I get swept up in it?), but I think a Bush presidency might be better for the country. Why? Because Bush is a Republican, which means that our nation’s liberal groups are going to OPPOSE any reactionary, counterproductive actions on his part. Contrast that to Clinton’s eight-year catastrophe, where he could have nuked Canada or subjected minoity groups to internment and face only the mildest resistance. (Again, not much room for argument here; anyone remember the Defense of Marriage Act, NAFTA, GATT, the politically expedient bombings, etc?)
And as far as Supreme Court nominations go, remember, Bush is a dope. I’m counting on him to attempt to appoint a full-bore reactionary but screw up and pick a centrist. Same goes for his handling of all the annoying joke issues like flag burning and obscene art. Hey, we’re talking someone who can’t complete ten sentences without screwing up. I just don’t see Contract With America II here.
And of course, the Democrats will finally, FINALLY be forced to end their complacency and put a little thought into who they nominate next time, and not ignore or brush aside issues like 40 million Americans without health insurance thanks to managed care, the shameless destruction of civil liberties caused by the War on Drugs…you should know the rest by now.
[All right, NOW we have a Great Debate! If anyone needs me, I’ll be in a bomb shelter fearing for my life. ;)]
