What am I doing wrong with my undershirt?

Okay, I’m a long time shirt-wearer. But there’s always been something that bugs me about undershirts:

Why do they always come untucked underneath your dress shirt and then they get all bulgy and uncomfortable? It really makes it awakward for me to wear a nice button-down shirt, tucked in with a belt.

So, am I wearing the wrong kind of undershirts, or what? I really want to dress nicer and still be comfortable without looking like I have a colostomy bag under there, so your opinions are welcome.

I’ve often wondered the same thing - it’s a prime reason I avoid wearing white dress shirts when at all possible. I also have a problem with the tee-shirt sleeves bunching up around my armpits after a short amount of normal gesturing and movement.

Any uniform-supply company will be able to help you out. I’ll see if I can find a link, but they all carry a nubby belt-type item that you wear on the inside of your pants, at the waist. It attaches to the pants, and the nubs keep your undershirt from riding up.

Off to find a link…

Check here.

You might also try buying your undershirts in a “tall” size so that the tails will be a little longer.

I tuck my undershirts into my underpants. I tuck my shirt into my pants. My undershirts essentially stay put.

Yep, that’s what I do with my blouses, sort of. Tuck them into the top of my pantyhose, along with my slip if the slit needs to stay put.

I don’t know about this tucking into the underpants thing. Then you run the risk of somebody catching you with your shirt tucked into your underpants. Then you’ll flash back to 6th grade, the first time you got caught, and becoming a pariah and having nowhere to sit because you’re The Kid Who Tucks His Shirts Into His Underpants. Or maybe that’s just me.
I find that most undershirts come extra long for just this reason, so that they’ll stay put. Are you being very active when you’re wearing them? Mine stay in with pretty much no problem.

Not I. Shirts, including T-shirts, get tucked into pants. Undershirts, which by definition are worn under a shirt (said shirt, of course, being tucked into pants), are tucked into underpants.

My solution, which I think is the most comfortable of all, is to simply cut off the bottom part of the undershirt so that it is not tucked in at all. I only tuck in the button-down, but I still have the nice feeling and look of the undershirt without having to worry about the “bunching effect”.

To clarify – if wearing a shirt outside one’s pants (not tucked in), the undershirt is tucked into the pants. Because a) it won’t rumple and bulge the way it would if both undershirt and shirt were tucked into the pants and b) allowing your underpants’ waistline to be seen is tacky, tacky, tacky.

Too bad they don’t make adult Onesies. “GOOGLE Search…” Oh wait, they do.
