What an outstanding inaugural speech!

Trump didn’t claim any credit for his capture! Wonder why…

From the OED:

Care to point out anything of racist origin in the above? This is exactly the kind of PC nonsense I mean. Because some ignorant idiot somewhere knows diddly squat about etymology and pulls pure bullshot out of his ass we all have to kowtow to him? I think not.

The greatest part of today was watching Obama (and his family) leaving. The cloud has finally lifted.

Tell you what, aldi, if any of the really important issues can be resolved by an extensive understanding of etymology, we’ll get right to you about it. Wait by the phone, you never know…

A common sentiment, though based on what I haven’t the faintest idea. You think political correctness will decrease as boomers die off and millennials increasingly control the culture? I saw similar reactions in December, with Trump supporters saying they feel relief now that they can finally say Merry Christmas. Americans attribute some odd powers to the president.

Michelle Obama has more grace and dignity in one fingernail than Trump has had in his entire life.

You think you’re happy? Wait till you see the rest of us in four years when this con man leaves in disgrace.

I quite agree, they can’t. But this is the SDMB. We’re not supposed to let ignorance stand unchallenged or uncorrected. Hence the post.

The cloud of economic recovery, scandal-free governance, the respect of the world, the fastest deficit reduction in US history, and a thoughtful, intelligent leader in office. Whew. Our era of peace and prosperity is finally over.

And everything you predicted came true, too. He took all our guns, rounded us up in FEMA death camps, cancelled the election, declared himself dictator for life, and instituted Sharia law.

Thank god we’ve moved past all that. I’m not sure our country will ever recover.

Post truth society, my friend. Toe Trump supporters, Michelle Obama is - literally, by the way - a transvestite posing as Obama’s wife. I’m not kidding, that’s the actual story they’re told.

I, for one, hope Prez Zapod does stay inside his comfort zone throughout his term, though this would seem to be both unlikely and not necessarily a good thing.

If outside his comfort zone of slogans, reality TV and US bankruptcy provisions the facade might fray a little.

Did he have his towel with him?

Given that the national debt increased by $9 trillion during Obama’s presidency, clearly not fast enough.

I’m prejudice to GOP, but I enjoyed the morning with the new POTUS and his family and seeing all of the older presidents. The speech was very different than anything I have ever heard a president say … I bet someone wrote it down to use against him three years from now when he runs for office again.

One real sign he is successful as POTUS will be noticed in the stock market:Stock Market Performance After Inauguration - Business Insider

But as this election’s outcome has confirmed, the past is not always a reliable guide for what will happen next.

You’re like those political commercials that played constantly during the 2012 election. “Obama said he’d reduced the deficit, but the debt has increased every year!”

Yeah, well, no shit. That’s what happens when you run a deficit.

He was handed a 2 trillion dollar a year deficit. The deficit was reduced to 600 billion dollars under him. A reduction of the deficit of 1.4 trillion dollars is the biggest reduction in deficit the country has ever seen.

The idea that he’s somehow doing a bad job because the republicans fucked up so much that we were in a 2 trillion dollar a year hole in the first place is ridiculous. He turned an out of control fire into something managable, yet somehow he’s to blame and not the people who set the fire in the first place.

It’s not his fault that Republicans refused to undo the catastrophic Bush tax cuts.

Still, let’s hope Ben Affleck starts looking for people to help harder… and faster. …
Edited to add:

I’m just Clothahump could see it from his Dojo’s window…

Classic pivot. If the deficit numbers don’t prove your point, talk about the debt; maybe nobody will notice.

Deficit is not the same as debt. Debt is cumulative. Deficit is new debt per time period (year, month, quarter, etc)

If you charge 3000 to your credit card one year, 2000 the next and 1000 the third, your debt went up but you reduced your deficit.

Feel free to join me on the real world.

We’ve had no economic recovery-- it’s been smoke and mirrors. When two to three to four times as many people drop out of the labor force as find a job, that’s not a recovery.

We’re not respected in the world. Russia openly mocks us. China outright challenges us. Our allies don’t trust us (and, indeed, Obama has worsened relations between ourselves and both Israel and the Philippines, as well as with Europe due to the whole NSA thing). And countries like Iran are brazen in their attacks on US interests.

And Obama is nowhere near a thoughtful and caring last, what with constantly talking diem to half the country and all.

I never said any of this.
