What animal poop sounds like sand hitting a metal roof?

This one has been driving me nuts for years, the sound produced is exactly as if a handful of sand was dropped onto the roof.

I’m assuming a bird or bat(only happens at night), but it could be an arboreal animal in a tree too.

I think an animal pooping on the roof as it flies overhead, or is is over it in a tree is the most logical explanation.

Or am I being too casual, droppings or scat then if you like :slight_smile:

Answering my own OP, I bet it could be bats.

I was assuming it was animal droppings yep, sounds like someone throws a handful of sand on the roof.

Doing an image search for guano convinces me this is true, warning you may not want hot chocolate mix or instant coffee again.
