By this point, nearly every tactic that could be used against Trump/MAGA has been tried, and found to be pretty futile. Impeachment, calling out his lies, calling him a bigot, spending heavily against him, all useless.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel, some seemingly not-yet used fresh methods could be:
Infiltrate MAGA en masse and undermine the movement from within. Have a lot of Democrats posing as Trump supporters but steering the movement way off track and also sowing lots of strife within. Wear T-shirts and caps that purposefully undermine the MAGA message while posing as a MAGA.
Getting a few million Democrats to move from California and New York, etc. (big safe blue states) into the sparsest-populated red states (North Dakota, South Dakota, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, etc.) This would flip 10 Senate seats from red to blue and 15 electoral college votes from red to blue, along with a few House seats, a massive game-changer. Of course, though, it would be highly difficult to persuade enough Ds to actually move to such unappealing states. But such a migration would spell a permanent end to any Republican Senate majority.
Strangely enough, support voter ID. Democrats should gamble that rural Republicans will be just as hampered by distance and logistics from getting a voter ID as urban minorities would in the city. And since voter ID is usually an issue Republicans poll better than Democrats on, supporting voter ID would negate that (R) advantage. In fact, Democrats could specifically try to mandate that voters get some sort of ID that is easier for urban folks to obtain than rural folks.
It’s not difficult at all to persuade people from blue states to move to Montana. Montanans have been complaining for many decades about “Californians” moving in and driving up prices (the term here, so far as I can tell, refers to folks from any state not bordering Montana, not just those from California itself).
But by the same token, the Montanans who are already there, even the liberals (of which there are already a decent number) will strongly resist anything that looks like “Californians” gaining political power in the state. If this started gaining any momentum, expect to see things like a very long residency requirement before new residents are allowed to vote.
Why should we assume that voter ID laws will be enforced impartially? I think it’s much more likely that once these laws get on the books and the current administration controls setting up the enforcement system, we’ll see potential Democratic voters being turned away from the polls and potential Republican voters being told their paperwork is acceptable and they can vote.
Please don’t send them to Montana. I left California 20 years ago and moved here to get away from all the people. You think Californians would accept no high-paying jobs and horrible winter weather Plus the Republican majority here would increase our taxes to cover all the infrastructure costs of doubling the state’s population.
The Democratic Party needs to fix itself so that working people everywhere see how they have been screwed by the Republicans for years. Until that happens, nothing will change..
Don’t broadcast him live. Vet his speech, mute every lie and superimpose the truth, with cited source, over the film. Let him ramble on, then BAM!, same treatment for next lie.

What MAGA seems ill equipped to deal with is being mocked. They don’t care if you hate them, call them names, or even threaten them. What they hate the most, what they have no defense against, is being laughed at. Waltz had some success during the last election when he talked about how weird the Republicans were. Call them out for being weird. Isn’t it weird they want to check out your kid’s genitals before they participate in school sports? Isn’t it rather craven for the president to protect himself and his most treasured ass kissers while leaving everyone else on Air Force One at risk? Keep saying outrageous things about the Republicans mocking their actions and their beliefs. You don’t even have to lie.
But they’ve been mocked relentlessly for 10 years now. I don’t see how this approach is doing anything to hamper Trump/MAGA or thwart them at the ballot box.

All the democratic party needs to do is watch MAGA fall on its face. We are not headed in a good direction, the Iran War is shaping up to be a real goatf**k, our strategic oil reserves are dwindling which will send gas prices soaring, the stock market is due for another colossol crash, the last unemployment report was a huge red flag, and prices for most consumer goods are the highest they’ve ever been as the strait of hormuz remains closed.
The tactics used so far are a combination of “It will magically go away”, “Leave them alone and they will destroy themselves” and “Somebody else will rise up to protect me”. All of these are variations of “Any solutions do not involve me actually having to do anything-Yay!”
The GOP currently controls the US House, the US Senate, the Executive Branch, a clear majority on SCOTUS, a majority of governors and state legislatures.
The DNC holds zero cards… maybe we can protest more?
There was a thread a few months ago that suggested this. I don’t feel like looking it up right now, but if I recall, the responses weren’t very positive. And for good reason. I mean, how would that even work?
So I pretend to be a trump supporter. I can’t just immediately and obviously start undermining the MAGA movement, so I have to pretend and parrot their lies and ridiculous BS wholeheartedly at first. Which would be sickening and soul-crushing. Then I’d have to very subtly start undermining the movement, maybe by asking questions like “How come prices ain’t getting any lower?” Or “I thought our great President wasn’t going to start any new wars. What’s up with that?”
Either I’m too subtle and don’t make any difference, or I’m too obvious and risk being ostracized by the MAGAs. And if I do get ostracized and fail, I’ve also already ostracized my friends and family who are anti-MAGA. I doubt they’ll buy it if I say “I was undercover! I was just cosplaying as a MAGA-lover, honest! I’m one of you, please believe me, take me back…”
I’ve thought this for years and I still think it’s not been fully exploited.
I could certainly be wrong, but I think there’s a difference between memes of Trump hiding in a catering cart and what I have in my head as serious mocking. What I imagine is people attending his speeches and literally laughing. Pointing and laughing.
Even better, politicians doing it. At State of the Union speeches, forget the official rebuttal. I want to see Democratic senators pointing and laughing and audibly saying, “This man is a fool, can you believe this nonsense?”
Stop dignifying the presidency and simply refuse to take the man seriously. Relentlessly point out he’s a moron. Not on FB or X, but in person. By people in power.
Why should we assume the current system (in Pennsylvania, signature checks) will be enforced impartially? At our polling places, the election judge, who is as likely to be a Republican as a Democrat, can see your party registration at time of signature check – they use the same books as in primary elections, when there is a need to know your party. This is not a problem. If anything, it will be harder for a Republican poll worker to dispute an ID than it was with a signature.
The current administration cannot control the enforcement system. It is controlled at the precinct level for in-person voters and at the county level for mail-in.
What the administration is trying to do is to add restrictions on mail-in voting, and impractical, difficult citizenship tests, on top of showing your driver’s license. Democrats who want to win should favor voter ID while opposing those other unpopular measures.
What about mail voting when there is a voter ID requirement? You have to take a cell phone or scanned picture of your ID. So people who are better at that stuff are advantaged. Old surveys show Democrats are more likely to have smartphones than Republicans. By now the party difference is likely tiny, but it can’t be zero, and I’m pretty sure Democrats are a bit better at using tech. Beating MAGA is too important to stand on the principle of wanting as broad an electorate as possible.
I think “we tried it and it failed” is poor framing. Politics is wild, some things can be controlled and some can’t.
At this moment Texas and Iowa are polling like swing states. GOP have lost like a third of the seats that have been up for reelection.
There were moments where Nixon, Bush sr., and Bush jr. all looked undefeatable.
Trump is just the rare candidate who had the audacity to wade back into the presidential race after getting his ass kicked the first time, and reaped the benefit of a lot of exigent circumstances.
The main thing that does need to happen is we need to actually win by big enough margins to empower Dems to dismantle GOP’s two biggest allies. Monopolized state media, and the Calvin ball judiciary that set the table for 2024.
