What are "Saved Christians" saved from?

It does raise the question of who God was making His sacrifice to.

Sounds like this is probably true in her case.

I’m a fan of the good ole’, “Jesus saves… And takes half damage.”

I’ll leave now…

Listening to you drone on about religion for an eternity?

That’s correct. I don’t think the Catholic church has ever taught “Faith Alone” is enough. Basically, it’s the whole, “faith without works is worthless,” teaching.

Otherwise, what’s the point?

Now, that sure don’t make no kinda sense. Are you saying GOD went to hell?

Wow, the poor economy has really affected everyone and EVERYTHING.

Huh? come again:rolleyes::dubious:

In that case how come they’re all afraid to die and go to heaven when they’re all saved already especially since heaven must be a better place than right here where if they work hard they can go and come to any part of the Earth they want whenever they want. Heaven is right here. No where else. BTW, where daheck is heaven?

Saved???
Saved from or is it saved for God?

And as far as works. You are not saved by your works, by by your faith.
Though
There is a song with the words “faith with out works is as usless as a screen door on a submarine.”

To those who are married and in love with their spouse do you do things for them because of duty or because you want to to show your love? Is your spouse your friend or the one that you have to follow?

Same thing follows. Because of my love for the Lord I serve. I work hard every year at a Christian music festable 10 to 14 hour days. I do not do this because I have to but because I get to, I do not like some of the work but it all gives me Joy.

I tend to beeble at times so I will end this for now.

They’re not all afraid to die. But there is a natural fear of the unknown in human beings. No one knows what “heaven” will be like. It is also natural to have our faith falter. Some people don’t fear death so much as they fear pain. And then there are those who have to fight the urge to move things along a little.

You should ask her why she believes that if you’re ignorant of something that means you must be incapable of understanding her explanation if she were to bother giving it. Pretty rude of her to assume you’re an idiot.

As others have mentioned, being saved is believing in everlasting life and the consequent modification of mindset. As per John 3:15&16, whoever believes in god shall have eternal life.

The belief in eternal life is just as good as having eternal life. In the end they will never know they are wrong. That is why it is popular with those having feeble minds or suffering psych issues.

Well it really depends on your denomination’s position. For some, it is actual hellfire in the afterlife. For religions with more “nuanced” theologies it can mean “saved from separation from the presence of God” or from “the Holy Spirit” in this life. It can mean from saved from “sin”. Her statement that she is already saved in this life is correct as far as I understand it.

I think that these denominations would rather express it that faith in God is a gift from God, so only those chosen by Him can have faith in Him. It’s not that you can have faith but not be chosen, you must have been chosen in order to believe.

Grim

Non-believer here but it seems obvious that even if you believe that heaven is better and that you will go there after you die, the transition (dying) still looks unpleasant. If there were a guaranteed pain free way to die that didn’t also break the anti-suicide rules that many religions have, you might have a valid question.

Saved as in ransomed, We are taken back by God, by the exchange of the death of His Son.

All have sinned, which is submission to a lesser god, that lesser god now owns us. Those gods now stand condemned which means everything they own is also condemned, including the people this lesser god owns. By Jesus dieing in our place that god no longer has any claim on us.

I think Cliffy was referring to those Protestant denominations that believe in predestination, either of the double or single variety.

Essentially, the doctrine of predestination says that God creates some souls specifically intending them to be with Him in heaven after death, and some souls specifically to, well, not be with Him. The doctrine of double predestination says that those latter souls are created with the intention that they end up in Hell.

The whole idea is pretty repugnant to Catholics.

Google is good. And it will lead you to, among other sites, Wikipedia, which says:
