I was reading a book about the Carpenters and they were saying how Richard especially but even Karen took drugs.
They used names of some of these drugs and I had to look them up.
I could kind of figure out that
Barbies = barbituates
Bennies = Benzedrine
Tuinal = Christmas trees
So I was wondering what other slang or street names for recreational drugs there are.
I know roofies = Rohypnol
I don’t know too much. Also if you name then, and they aren’t obvious, can you say why they are nicknames as such.
Obviously Barbies and Bennies are just shortned names of the long form of the drug.
But I think Christmas trees for Tuinal is stretching it a bit. I mean does this look l ike a Christmas tree?
Tuinal was the brand name of a discontinued combination drug composed of two barbiturate salts (secobarbital sodium and amobarbital sodium) in equal proportions.
Tuinal was introduced as a sedative-hypnotic (sleeping pill) medication in the late 1940s by Eli Lilly. It was also used in obstetrics for childbirth. It was produced in brightly colored half-reddish orange and half-turquoise blue gelatin capsule form (bullet-shaped Pulvules) for oral administration. Individual capsules contained 50 mg,...

Back in college a friend of mine and I used to snort (amongst other things) Dexedrine. When I had it all ready to go, I’d get her attention by sticking my head out of whatever room I was in and saying “Come On Eileen.” I thought it was clever since the band that sings that song is called Dexys Midnight Runners and Dexy sounded like Dexedrine. Found out years later that the name Dexys Midnight Runners was named for the drug Dexedrine…how appropriate.

Did anyone ever actually call it that? I saw it in drug scare pamphlets, but I never heard anyone call it that.

I just read about someone advertising on Craig’s List, wanting to “Meet up with Mary Jane”. :rolleyes:
Cops got her.

Yeah, my daughter lectured me on this. “Don’t say ‘smoking dope,’ Mama, it doesn’t mean what you think it means.”
We used to call LSD “Uncle Sid,” as in “Hey, you seen Uncle Sid lately?” “I partied with Uncle Sid last weekend.”

bingle - nothing, but it would be a good slang drug name
Elmer Fudd - dilaudid
Whazz - mushrooms in a hash
I know a woman who wrote that somebody ‘used her ass a surface for doing molly’. I suspect this is a drug reference but keep forgetting to ask.
Well right now I’m hopped up on goofballs…
Cops are reading Craigslist looking for people who are trying to buy pot? Just when I thought my opinion of law enforcement couldn’t sink any lower.
