It bugs me when people say things like “I know I’m just a newbie, but…”. I know newbies can feel like their opinions don’t carry as much weight as a veteran posters’-- heck, I felt that way myself way back when-- but I cannot recall a single time anyone criticized someone’s opinion simply because the poster was new. So long as your post is coherent, relevant, and pleasant to read, most people won’t care what your registration date is. Maybe some folks have come from boards that did that, and they can’t be faulted for being cautious. But it doesn’t take much lurking to see that that kind of immaturity isn’t tolerated here.
In multiple-page threads, occasionally people will post and say “I haven’t read the other posts, but…”. Usually, the content of their posts makes it obvious-- they reiterate a previously posted point of view, or ask an already-answered question. Not only is this annoying, it’s also rude. Why should anyone read your posts if you didn’t read anyone else’s first? Thankfully, this doesn’t happen very often.
I also wish people would stop apologizing for the length of their long-ish posts. Chances are, if it’s a long post and I made it to the apology at the end without getting bored and skipping to the next post, the post was just fine. I would go as far to say that most people don’t care about post lengths so long as it’s relevant, clear, informative, pleasant to read.
I never cared for the practice of “rating” Pit OPs, or abruptly changing the topic within a Pit thread. If that’s all you can think of to post, then you shouldn’t be posting to that thread. If the OP is that retarded, you should just let the thread die.
If I had to pick one thing that annoyed me the most, though, it’d have to be the complaints about the editing feature being disabled. I’m tired of hearing the “we can do it on other boards, why not this one?” whines, and I’m tired of seeing the many ATMB and Pit threads on it. What bugs me is not so much that there’s been endless posting about it, but that those people aren’t taking advantage of the Preview feature. Early on I made it a habit to preview before submitting my posts; it’s totally ingrained now. Moreover, it’s not like you need to preview in order to check a post-- it can be done from the reply window. It just takes patience. Apparently, that’s too much to expect from some posters.
