What are the must have iPhone apps?

Title says it all. New iPhone, what are the best apps out there?

Pandora Radio. It has all the features of the internet version for free, and it even works pretty well over EDGE. It’s the number one must-have, in my opinion.

Valete,
Vox Imperatoris

Stanza. Excellent, free ebook reader. Built-in catalog function makes it simple to grab content from Project Gutenberg and other archives.

PCalc Lite. Solid scientific calculator. Switches between an advanced and basic mode when you tilt your iphone between the portrait and landscape orientations. Neat!

They make a graphing calculator app, too, called GraphCalc. And the iPhone already switches it’s calculator to scientific when you turn it sideways, if you didn’t know. I’ll have to try out this Stanza app.

Shazam is really neat. I don’t actually have an iPhone, just a Touch, but a few friends have iPhones and this app. We always try it out in bars and it’s always worked so far.

Yellow Pages. So useful you forget you have it. “Damn it, now I have to drive home because I forgot to look up that number.” :::Drives Home::: “SHIT! I could have just looked it up on my phone!” Also great for call ahead dining and take out.

TONS of great ones, but I think that’s the only “must have” one I’ve encountered.

Files: Lets you store (and access) PDFs, Word docs, and other text files. (Need a wifi connection.)
USA Today: Nice news app, and the weather section is better than the one that comes with the phone.
AP Mobile News: Another news app.
Stanza: Free eBook reader
EasyWriter: Lets you write email using the “landscape” mode, which is hella handy.
Google Earth: Massive time killer.
AWG Convert: Converts wire gauge to mm or inches
Units: Lets you convert 'Merkin to Metric, and back again.
Remote: Control iTunes with your iPhone.
Shopper: Grocery list app
A Free Level: A bubble level
GasBag: Who’s got the cheapest gas around you.
iSuspend: Checks your car’s suspension. (There’s a bunch of automotive apps, but thats the only free one I’ve found.)
iTalk: Use your iPhone to record sound (needs the headset or other mic plugged in).
AroundMe: Lets you know where banks, bars, restaurants, and more are close to your present location.
AutoMangle: If you liked the remake of Death Race or the Mad Max movies, you’ll probably like this game.
iMurphy: A collection of Mr. Murphy’s laws.
JellyCar: Try to drive a Jell-O car over obstacles.
Rimshot: Push the big red button, get a rimshot, crickets, sad trombone, or golf clap.
AOL Radio: Streaming radio
NationalDebt: Just how deep in the hole are we?
Doodle Kids: A drawing program for kids, written by a 9-year old.
Face Melter: Lets you “melt” faces in photos you’ve taken with the camera. Handy, I’m told, if you spend lots of time in airports with young kids.
Wobble her Bikini: Put a little animation in those photos, if you know what I mean. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I’ve only had my phone since friday so this list is ever-changing at the moment.

Google Maps
Google Earth
Google Mobile - (gives access to gmail, calendar, docs, talk, reader, goog-411, news, notebook, photos, orkut, translate, maps, youtube, earth. But the only feature I use is the voice search)

Free wi-fi locator - not the biggest database, but the other locators list paid wifi, this one only has free hotspots
earthcomber, around me, nearby - 3 apps which show what’s near you. I like earthcomber the best, the other 2 may get deleted
Craigsphone - Craigslist app
ichess
sudoku
enjoy sudoku
a weather app - theres a million, i’m trying to find my favorite. accuweather seems ok

Jailboken apps:
Bourne-Again SHell - gives you a bash shell
Terminal - to use the bash shell
Erica Utilities - command line utilities, the best is “findme” which gives your GPS coordinates in latitude/longitude
Safari download plugin - lets you download things
Bossprefs - extra preferences
Winterboard - custom look
Cydia - installs apps
Categories - groups apps into folders
Poof - hides icons for things you can’t delete
File2mail - email any file on the system
Finder - allows you to browse the phone’s file system
FindInPage - adds a bookmark to Safari for finding text in a webpage like ctrl+f on normal browsers
Flashlight - brighter flashlight than the ones in appstore, has strobe feature
MxTube - saves youtube videos for repeated watching

Lots of goodies on this thread. I’ll be downloading like crazy again.

If you are a big user of the little notes in Outlook, like I was, you may be very disappointed that you can’t sync them like calendar and contacts.

Evernote is a great solution to that. It’s an app and a free service that lets you hav a client also reside on your PC. Your notes a sync’d wirelessly, and you can also look them up via any web browser if you are out of coverage.

It integrates into Outlook so you can effortlessly export your notes. But it also lets you paste graphics, videos, web pages and sound recordings into your notes.
